I think I am lost with gnome and mine types!

Hi

I would like to use scribes to open and edit a ruby program.  When I open scribes or double click using nautilus, I get the following error:

The MIME type of the file you are trying to open is not for a text file.

MIME type: application/x-ruby

Is there some trick in getting scribes to open a text file that has an application mime type?
