CPU and memory are free enough but my arch linux is still quite slow

CPU and memory are free enough but my arch linux is still quite slow while using the terminal.

Does anyone have any idea?

Since you're asking for guesses, it could be from multiple places.

I noticed that you're running a dual processor system, have you tried running in both SMP and NUMA?  I seem to get better performance using SMP on my dual x5687 system.  On my setup, NUMA gives me 2 sets of 24GB ram (one per processor) and SMP gives me 1 set of 48GB.  If I were running a server with specialized needs, I'd use NUMA and configure my programs with "numactl" to use a specific processor and it's ram, but for my desktop, ZFS, gaming, and compiling needs, the larger amount of ram is beneficial for using /tmp on a ramdisk, ZFS ram requirements, games, etc.  With SMP, I use "taskset" to run intensive programs on specific cores or threads.

It could be your disk drive IO scheduler.  I can tell you that ZFS gets horrible performance (on my HDDs) when it's using anything but NOOP.  Without knowing your filesystems and types of disks you have, I can't really suggest an IO scheduler to try.  Phoronix.com posts benchmarks of various schedulers with various types of drives to give you an idea of what schedulers you could try depending on the type of drive you have.

Another possible cause could be your disk mount options (likely) or even the settings you used to create your partitions (very unlikely if you used the defaults).

Another guess would be your CPU governor.  Setting it to performance will rule that out, but....

....there are also various BIOS options for regulating your processor's speed, like SpeedStep.  You should disable all those kinds of settings so you know you're running at your maximum performance possible.

I would start with both the CPU governor and performance related bios settings first.  If you know your processor is running as fast as possible and you still get bad performance, then at least you'll know it isn't the processor.

I found out what was happening. I am running postgres and my /var partition was too slow.
In fact, postgres uses fsync and that makes the partition and the whole system very slow when it /var is mounted using data ordered.
I substituted this mounting flag to writeback (in /etc/fstab) and the whole system is much faster (more than 15x faster).
