HP 625, everything works fine here. Athlon II P340, 3GB memory, ATI Mobility Radeon 4250.

There were problems with the installation from the 2010.05 iso image, so I install it from 2009.08.

Just bought an Asus eee PC 1015PEM - It's a netbook and runs Arch perfectly. (Well, you have to enable bluetooth in BIOS, the button that enables it and WiFi in Windows only enables WiFi in Linux - Also, parts of the Wiki are wrong and caused some problems, about to go work on that though.)

Also, @MaR1oC - I'm pretty sure that's a bug in KDE, not your laptop model.  I have the same problem on my Desktop.

I'm rocking a Compaq cq62, the older version that has only a single-core 2.2ghz celeron processor. It's rather low spec, but is almost a perfect platform for Arch. I've only had problems with the Realtek rtl9181se wireless card, because wpa_supplicant hates the driver or something. The entirely intel graphics chipset was rather easy to use with Xorg once I got past my n00bness, so that was nice.

I just switched over from ubuntu, and I'm absolutely loving Arch so far. I love the mix of simplicity and ease-of-use with absolute control.

Sager NP8130 works without a hitch.

Caveats:

I have not tried to use the fingerprint reader, and may not.  It's neat to have, and worked under Ubuntu, but I only tried it there to see what it was like.
I have not tried the HDMI output, but I've got no reason to think it won't work.

Also:

I have an icm profile which was created (not by me) for the panel included in the 8130 up until recently.  I do not know if this is the same panel included since the hardware refresh of about 3-ish weeks ago.

If anyone wants this (for any laptop which uses the AUO11ED panel) PM me and I'm happy to provide.  It applies automatically at boot with no problem using dispwin and a few lines of code in /etc/gdm/Init/Default for Gnome3 -- would imagine similar methods would work fine for other DE's/DM's.

There is a noticeable blue cast without using this profile.

Most of the features worked out of box.  wifi and bluetooth did not need any special configuration.  The multimedia buttons also work out of the box under Gnome 3 but under Xfce 4.8 it took alot of work to get them working. The win modem is does not work but out of the box but can be made, there are wiki out that tell how to accomplish this.  I don't need the modem so I have not really tried.   The card slot only works for sd cards but xd cards do not work due to there is no linux driver for RICOH xD picture card R5C592.  It now works better than on windows xp .

Hi all,

this is my first post on archlinux forum. After many years using Debian, Fedora and many others I wanted to try a rolling distro on my brand new Dell Latitude E6420.
I chose Gnome-shell as DE and almost everything works fine except:

1 - the ALPS touchpad is not recognized (although Ubuntu 11.04 does recognize it)
2 - gnome-power-manager does not seem working properly. When trying to dim the screen backlight the system slow down. Sometimes the battery icon is not on the panel.

I will search around on the forum if there are solution for these little inconveniences.

I recently installed Arch on a Lenovo B570, no problems other than I couldn't get the card reader to work. However I found a driver (download from http://ubuntuone.com/p/153B/), installed and it works fine.

I just installed Arch on a MacBook Pro 8,2 (aka the "Febuary 2011" model, according to apple.com). The actual install went well, with two caveats.

First, I needed one of the Release Engineering builds to get the 2.6.35 or greater kernel so that I could have network access. The one I used was 2011.08.06.

Second, to get the Live CD to boot, I needed to burn the ISO to a CD and write it to a flash drive, load them both into the MacBook Pro at the same time, and boot from the CD. Then, when the 8,2's weird SATA controller did not show the CD in the /dev/disk hierarchy, it was able to grab the files that it needed from the flash drive.

I am still working on customizing the system, but so far I haven't had any major issues. Wireless support looks like it could be a bit flaky though.

Everything works, even internal mic that refuses to work under ubuntu and mint.
The only thing that migth scare during installation is that is recommended to use an opensource driver for the nvidia card instead of proprietary one due to its incopatibillity with latest xorg version, but i didn't noticed any difference in performance (I m not a gamer), I noticed instead a sensible decrease in gpu and cpu temperature since using arch.

Hi,

I'm sorry to ask such a bad question as first post, but I think here are many people who are tech geeks

Currently I have a Dell XPS M1330 with Nvidia graphics and it's running really perfect with the 9 cell battery. It is/was gaming capable, runs about 5 hours, has a HDMI out and Suspend/Hibernate works like a charm. Nevertheless its four years old and the warranty runs out ( I had the XPS service, where the technician repairs your device at home ). Since that thing might break someday, I'm already looking for a replacement.

The problem is: There are so many devices out there and none hits the specs, there is always a caveat. And I don't want to get a MacBook Pro, although those are really nice too.

My Requirements aren't that specific:

- 13 or 14 inch device
- about 3 pounds
- At least 6 real hours on battery
- changeable battery if possible
- working HDMI or Display port is required
- Good Display, if possible not glossy or bright enough
- Needs to run Archlinux, as I'm on Linux only since a year
- Thickness around 3-4 cm, the HP devices are all thicker

Two examples:
Lenovo Thinkpad T420:
    - Quite expensive
    - runs long enough IF switching with Nvidia Optimus works well
    - Integrated Intel HD 3000 seem to be... well... crap.

Acer Aspire Timeline X 4830:
    - Quite cheap
    - Runs long enough, IF switching Nvidia Optimus works OR if no dedicated card is on board
    - Integrated Intel HD 3000.. same thing.

Older Acer Aspire Timeline X 4820:
    - Intel HD 4500 also sucks
    - Switching between ATI and Intel seems possible

So devices with integrated Intel always seem to make problems and there are no nice ways to switch between a dedicated and integrated grahpics card. I know about Bumblebee and vga-switcharoo, but they don't seem to be stable. Do external displays work with the Intel graphics? How do I switch between those?

So I ask you, which is your favored device? Does it run without problems?

Hey guys,

I was looking for a new Power-Notebook which is also able to play flash in fullscreen and in (full - 1080p) HD (If that is possible with open source drivers). I have recently bought an Asus, but now my Mom is going to use that, because it has a new NVIDIA Optimus GPU and that is not going to work well with Linux. (It is not supported :-( ).

So... I need a Notebook (Maybe with Core-i7?) which has a fast CPU, GPU and good On-Board-Soundboxes. (I like playing old Games e.g. Warcraft 3 under wine).
I saw many Lenovo (Thinkpads), but the newer ones have also NVIDIA Optimus. Or should I switch from Nvidia to ATI?
If you have any Recommendation (Maybe you could tell me which Notebook(s) you bought recently) for me I would be very grateful.

P.S. Don't worry about the price. The Notebook should just work like a charm. ;-) So if it is going to cost about $ 10.000 - I have to pay $ 10.000.
