Hey aduggan,
I'm running kernel 3.13.11-1 ck. It's vanilla arch other than that.
uname -a
Linux rvarch 3.13.11-1-ck #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 23 17:01:52 EDT 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
It's the ck kernel so maybe something is different? The reason I'm using CK that several parts of the RB14 only work under CK kernel (specifically, the switchable graphics).

I'm using XFCE as windowing manager if that's what you meant by version of arch.
I just downloaded arch from the website a month ago, so I assume it's the most recent "version"...?

By the way, one weird thing is that after installing the driver, it hung after boot for ALL My kernels (I have a vanilla arch 3.13 kernel on my system too that I initially tried to boot into to fix it). Even though the module was installed into the 3.13 CK kernel, booting into the 3.13 ARCH kernel caused the same hanging problem. That seemed weird to me, since the module was installed in /lib/modules/3.13.11-ck/extra and there was no rules added to the udev thing, as far as I could tell, so I don't know why my other kernels were loading modules from different kernels...(?). But, then I have no idea how kernels work, really
All I know is that I had to manually uninstall it because the uninstall script uses uname -r (and I chroot from a different kernel version), and the only thing I deleted was the .ko in /lib/modules. And then I called depmod -a 3.13.11-ck.
Thanks for including the restore script by the way, saved me time having to reverse the install script

Looking at the install script, it looks like it's blacklisting hid-generic, which perhaps is what was controlling my normal keyboard etc. (thus the hang?). I never tried to plug in a different keyboard while it was hung.
Best,
Richard

Ignore this stupid statement, I already have said that it's not ever adding any of the udev stuff (perhaps that's my problem?)
EDIT: It *IS* adding the udev stuff (the 99-hid-rmi rule), and still hanging. I'm testing in 3.14-ARCH kernel now.

OK I tried the same thing on 3.14.1-ARCH, exact same thing
Note, here's my normal dmesg | grep usb
There are some errors, and I have never been able to figure out what those string descriptor errors are. Looks like there is some HID stuff in there already... (note this is without your kernel module installed)

Interesting, usually the VID and PID are unique for the touchpad. But, based on the dmesg output it looks like on this device all of the input devices are on a single composite HID device with the same VID and PID. It makes sense that installing using the current method would bind our driver to all of the input devices which would then screw them up. I will have to look up a way to bind the driver solely to the mouse collection.

Hey aduggan,
Thanks for the reply. yea, it shows as only "Razer blade" and includes the keyboard and some other stuff apparently. It's a pain in the butt, has made reverse engineering touchpad difficult apparently...
Here is lsusb -v in case it helps (sorry for spam, maybe I should use pastebin etc for this kind of thing?)
[riveale@rvarch ~]$ lsusb -v

It looks like they're numbered:
0003:1532:011D.0001
0003:1532:011D.0002
0003:1532:011D.0003
0003:1532:011D.0004
The touchpad is number 4 or number 1 it looks like. Looking at the driver it doesn't seem like there's anywhere to put this though, hm.

Dell Inspiron 3521
Everything went smoothly, + installed broadcom-wl-dkms from AUR for WiFi, added flag to GRUB cfg to enable fn keyboard shortcut for brightness adjustment.
Happy ever since with no hiccups.

Hi Richard,
Ok, we need some additional information for sorting out what exactly each of these devices are reporting. Can you or someone else on the forum build hid-recorder and provide some logs?
hid-recorder can be found here:
https://github.com/bentiss/hid-replay.git
Then run this for each of the devices 0 - 3:
sudo hid-recorder /dev/hidraw0 |tee hidraw0.log
While recording the data try using the keyboard, touchpad, and whatever input devices are on the system so that we can see which devices are reporting which types of events.
I am not sure if this forum has the capability for uploading files so it might be easier just to email them to me. Also, my guess would be that the fourth device is the touchpad.

Sure, I'll try this out later tonight. I think someone has done something similar previously, though maybe it was for the RB17.

OK, i recorded them and I'll email them to y ou.
#0 is the mouse/touchpad
#1 is the function key combinations
#2 is the normal keyboard
#3 had no output no matter what I did.

Ok, I have something to try. I just made a small change to the udev rules to only bind hid-rmi to interface 0 which is the touchpad. The remaining HID devices should stay bound to hid-generic. If this doesn't work I would suggest trying an external keyboard and mouse to remove /etc/udev/rules.d/99-hid-rmi.rules.
I forked the driver, added a bug fix, and then created the rb14 branch with the updated install script and device id in hid-rmi's id table. I have tested the code as much as I can on a single interface USB HID device, but I don't really know if it will work on the rb14.
Get the code with this command:
git clone https://github.com/aduggan/hid-rmi.git -b rb14

No hardware problems running on a single core Atom Acer Aspire One netbook with 3.10 LTS kernel. It's not much more powerful than a Raspberry Pi, just with intergrated KVM, UPS, and WiFi. Instead of downloading a desktop environment, I decided to build my own from Openbox which uses less than 100MB of RAM.

I installed the branch, but basically it makes mouse not respond at all, although keyboard etc. still works.
I can run the hid-replay/hid-recorder command with keyboard/function keys, but with mouse it says that there is no such file or directory! Looking at dmesg, it's still there, so I don't know why it's not working...

lsmod of hid looks like that usbhid (the one I installed from you) isn't being used by anything?
[riveale@rvarch ~]$ lsmod | grep hid
hid_generic 1153 0
usbhid 40545 0
hid 90774 2 hid_generic,usbhid

OK, so we have good progress thanks to Andrew's work. We have a synaptics driver working on the touchpad, and I can get mouse movement and two-finger scrolling. Unfortunately, clicking the buttons or tapping isn't recognized, although they are sending SOME kind of signal, I guess those are not the "normal" signals for clicking etc. and thus it's not recognizing them.
To get it to work (no tapping or clicking yet so not suggested), install the forked driver above (and then run depmod -a), and then you also need to install:
sudo pacman -S synaptics
which will install xf86-synaptics-input
(This will also add a 50-touchpad.conf rule to to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d)

Toshiba satellite pro r950-127
archlinux cdrom wont boot. you must pass pnpbios=off mem=1000M at kernel command line
after installing all is fine (no need to pass next reboot)

Hi, I'm thinking about getting one of these things. It looks like someone made the trackpad behave like a real trackpad; can we expect to see that software in AUR?
Or, is it possible to shut the trackpad down completely (and bring it back up) using something on the command line? That's what I'm doing with my current netbook - 90% of my computing tasks are keyboard-only, so I've simply made a shell script that turns off the trackpad and locks the pointer in the corner of the screen, and another that brings it back. Will I be able to find similar commands for this pad?

Hi yanom, yes there is a way to shut it off, e.g. in XFCE using the "mouse" thing you can uncheck "use this device" and it turns it off. I do this when I use an external device. I'm sure you can map this to a keyboard shortcut too.

I'm running Arch with Gnome 3 and the default ATI Radeon driver, with an encrypted block device for home, root and swap, on the following:
Acer 5536
AMD Turion RM74
4Gb memory.
120GB SATA drive.
ATI Radeon HD3200 'Graphics' chipset.
Everything worked perfectly out of the box, including wireless detection.

ok, thanks. problem is, i wanted to use an external mouse, keeping the mouse cursor but discarding trackpad input. Also I use dwm, so is there a way to temporarily close off that trackpad to X11 input?

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Yes, you can discard the trackpad input and keep the mouse cursor but only control it using the external (USB) mouse.
I don't know about DWM, but since there is a way in (simple) way in XFCE I assume there is a way in DWM but you will have to find it.

OK, Andrew's new driver gets the mouse buttons to work as well as two-finger scrolling and turning off the touchpad while typing! [EDIT: tap to click works too, at least after running the syndaemon manaully]
It's enough to get me to use the driver, so that's all I'm using now.
What doesn't work: pinch to zoom, 3rd mouse button (both buttons at same time). I don't know if any of these are non-driver-related, but I list them here anyway since they're usually defaults.
To get it to work, check out his git repo, make, sudo make install, sudo depmod -a, sudo pacman -S synaptics, reboot!
I additionally had to uncheck "turn off touchpad while typing" in XFCE mouse settings (which works but has a 2 second delay after typing before touchpad respons, way too long!), and manually set it via sudo syndaemon -i .5 -d for 500 msec delay (in ~/.xinitrc etc.)
