I was getting low transfer speed from my laptop to NAS using inbuilt wifi, so I bought this new adapter with 802.11AC technology. After searching the internet I found that this adapter works with "rtl8812au-v5-dkms-git" from AUR.
Now, the bad part is using above mentioned driver I am only able to connect with 802.11N networks on 2.4ghz channel. My router supports 5 ghz and AC. I am able to detect N network on 5 ghz but not able to connect and I am not able to see AC networks. Any ideas?
One good thing is ever with same 802.11N network on 2.4 ghz channel I am getting better trasnfer speeds. (iwconfig shows 150mbps as compared to 72mbps with inbuilt card)

I own the same adapter so I'm interested in this thread. Unfortunately I can't contribute much yet because I'm chicken and egg with it. It is my only source of internet (I have no wired at all) and I can't install Arch on the bare metal (I have it in a virtual machine) because the installation medium doesn't have the driver and you can't build the driver without an installed system.

Docbroke, have you made any progress on your issue?
I have decided what I'm going to do for mine. I'm going to purchase a: Media Bridge. The one I have in mind is: This One. When I get the product and configure it as a bridge then it'll plug right into my ethernet jack, which fully works with Linux, and look identical to a wired connection for it. The product also could have many useful abilities as time goes on as well. It can also be a repeater or an access point. Good stuff.
Getting a bridge logically removes the wireless connection and that layer is handled in the device so it operates as intended instead of shoddy Linux support with drivers in the OS (AUR) itself.

No, no progress.
My eyes are now set on intel dual-band wireless-ac 7260 card. It appears to be supported on linux and it is compatible with my laptop.

Perhaps you are even within the return period of the DWA-171. I'm definitely not for mine, I plan to give my adapter to my roommate once I get the bridge. He's only got a N standard adapter and the router we both connect to supports AC 5Ghz so it'll be a step up for him.
