Cairo 1.2.0 released

And where were all the sportsmen who always pulled you though?
They're all resting down in Cornwall
writing up their memoirs for a paper-back edition

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

Hopefully this will bring GTK's performance back up to where it was again...

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

It sure speeds up, but GTK 2.10.0 which has been released also is the slowest beast I've ever seen. I will upgrade cairo, but as long as we don't need GTK 2.10 for something specific, I'll keep 2.8 in the repositories.

Ouch. Something tells me this could spiral completely out of control very quickly, ala Mozilla.

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

About the slowness: I take it back... it was a glitz-enabled cairo that caused the slowdowns. I'm looking at compatibility problems with gtk 2.10.0 now, so far I've found:

- gnome-terminal can't close the about dialog with close button
- libgnomeui needs patching for the gnomevfs filechooser plugin
- all theme engines will need to get moved from /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0 to /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0

Ah, glad to hear that GTK isn't going the way of Windows Vista.

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

Maybe we should at least update from gtk 2.8.19 to 2.8.20 until the 2.10 update comes.

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

cairo, pango, glib2, gtk2, libgnomeui, gtk-engines and several image loader plugins entered testing. Changes:
- speed improvements due to cairo
- new fileselector
- asynchronous gnomevfs fileselector, no longer hangs while browsing a remote share

Known bugs:
- gnome-terminal about screen doesn't close, will backport fix from CVS for this
- gedit can't browse network:///, displays smb-root.desktop
- some theme engines or image loader plugins are not updated to the 2.10 module dir, please report bugs for these.

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

Adobe acrobat stops working with the upgrade. It goes into an infinite loop with error message "expr: syntax error" when starting from the command line.

I downgraded cairo and it works properly again

Found and applied this patch and it fixed that error for me.

Re: Cairo 1.2.0 released

Well, GTK stuff seems a lot faster in Testing, but PyGTK apps still have dog-slow redraws... yea, even with the updated version of pycairo. :?
