Man, you give Firefox a minimum font size and Google Reader just falls apart...

Anyway, I'm still wmii with mfp's Ruby wmiirc script. The only non-standard bars are the IM bar which shows messages from weechat, which I use with bitlbee, and the bar next to it which shows how much disk space I have left since I made Arch's partition too small...

The disk bar: http://pastie.caboo.se/4714
The IM bar: You'll have to wait smile

Why is it that everyone uses openbox instead of, say, fluxbox?

Fluxbox is what you get if you take old blackbox code, and then ask 10-yr-olds what features they'd like. They invariably want "transparency" and "rounded corners" and "menu icons" and other such frivolous bullshit. To them I say a hearty "fuck you" and I use openbox because it doesn't have all that pointless shite. Also it has great features of it's own - more flexible keybindings than other *boxes, pipe menus, speed, simplicity, and elegance.

Flux is for children, OB is for adults.

Of the great features of OB, I think only "pipe menus" and the different config file structures are the only valid points (see Fluxbox 1.0 for the flexible keybindings). I only ask because when I started using Fluxbox, Openbox was stagnant. Alt-tab behaviour is just fine for me in fluxbox... how is it funny?

I think the fluxbox config structure is pretty bad, an XML based system might be nice. That, and all the themes I've ever found for it are extremely ugly. Some of these desktops are very pretty. Whelp... I guess it's time to install archlinux on my laptop since the reiserfs partition is 33% fragmented after 5 years. I'll try out OB

Openbox + Gnome, Rezlooks-Chlorophyll theme for both, Edge icons, Dungeon font for everything except the terminals (those use smoothansi), adesklets (asimpleclock and volume applets). Wallpaper (Maelstrom, obviously enough) is by Greg Martin.

That was unexpected. Apparently, Openbox is also for people who demonstrate traits of arrogance and megalomania. I'm sure you are not really that type of person but it does come across that way...which is unfortunate.

I certainly can be rather caustic in my insults sometimes, but normally they're made very tongue-in-cheek, which is something that doesn't easily come across in a written form. I don't actually think fluxbox is for children, but I believe my personal problems with it were outlined in my post.

Do i remember right that openbox has "useless" icons in titlebars? wink Owned smile

I'd say: pekwm > all tongue

P.S: Everyone should use what he likes - and different users have different needs.

Yeah well, nothing's perfect wink

Hmm, last time I used pekwm the api was changing all the time so any themes I found for it stopped working properly after a couple of weeks. And it just doesn't look or feel as good as ob to me, not sure why exactly.

P.S: Everyone should use what he likes - and different users have different needs.

Yup, agreed.

And icons that are not square are not drawn correctly. And they can easily be disabled.

Yep, there were some theme format changes with the versions 0.1.3 -> "cvs" -> "svn". But now the format is settled and constant since some time. There is a complete rewrite planned for 0.2.0 though.

Yes, it's one of the reasons for using openbox-cvs.
