kde-i18n-ru is in the repo's, this may solve your problem.

PS. This may sound offence though I don't intend on it: You should work on your English a little before posting an English forum. It took a while for me to understand what you was asking.

You need to set your locale.

I'd suggest ru_RU.UTF-8.

First uncomment ru_RU.UTF-8 in /etc/locale.gen, then run locale-gen and last edit /etc/rc.conf and setup LOCALE="ru_RU.UTF-8"

Re: How make that be russian laters, but not '?????', of files?

Damjan,
Nano automaticlly create new /etc/locale.gen file, in it nothing to uncomment, I write in it 'ru_RU.UTF-8'.
'[root@myhost ~]# locale-gen
bash: locale-gen: command not found'
'[root@myhost ~]# locale
LANG=en_US
LC_CTYPE="en_US"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US"
LC_TIME="en_US"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_US"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US"
LC_PAPER="en_US"
LC_NAME="en_US"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US"
LC_ALL=
[root@myhost ~]#    '
Make that, yuo say, but still inproperlly show russian file names.
If run XFCE4 file manager and try create new file with russian name:

[root@myhost ~]# xffm

** (xffm:2313): WARNING **: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input. Codeset for system is: ISO-8859-1

Or if try rename write somethin that:

looking through my locale.gen the line appears to be ru_RU.UTF-8    UTF-8

also make sure you were looking in /etc/locale.gen, you really should have that file

'[root@myhost ~]# locale-gen
bash: locale-gen: command not found'

hmm. locale-gen should be located in /usr/sbin/
also it should be a part of the glibc package which is part of the base config

Thanks!
I install:

[root@myhost ~]# pacman -S glibc

Targets: kernel-headers-2.6.12.0-1 glibc-2.4-2

Total Package Size:   10.9 MB

Proceed with upgrade? [Y/n] y

In locale.gen after I install glibc be uncommented this text: "ru_RU   ISO-8859-5",
But I uncomment 'ru_UA.UTF-8     UTF-8'.
Then run locale-gen.
Then in rc.conf is that text:

LOCALE="ru_RU"

I restart KDE, but show inpropperly russian file names. Maybe need reboot computer?

Re: How make that be russian laters, but not '?????', of files?

yes, the changes in rc.conf only take effect during reboot (i think)

after reboot if things still don't work go to the control center in kde and check under 'regional & accessability' and 'country/region & language'

also once you get this sorted out you should probably pacman -Syu again and update to udev and kernel26 (read the wiki on udev before doing it http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DevFS_to_Udev)

If you want to see cyrillic chars in filenames on FAT filesystems you should mount them with -o codepage=866

Re: How make that be russian laters, but not '?????', of files?

I'm from Ukraine so I use Cyryllic chars.

I use the following rc.conf:

LOCALE="uk_UA.KOI8-U"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE=Europe/Kiev
KEYMAP=ua
CONSOLEFONT=koi8u_8x16
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

Note that you cannot simply change koi8-u to koi8-r.
There are some problems with KOI8-R:
console fonts for KOI8-R does not have Unicode map (there are koi8r*.psf.gz, but no koi8r*.psfu.gz) and to use KOI8-R you must use Cyr_a8x16 font with koi2alt consolemap (IIRC).

Try this:

/etc/rc.conf:

LOCALE="ru_RU.KOI8-R"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE=Canada/Pacific # why Canada/Pacific???
KEYMAP=ru
CONSOLEFONT=Cyr_a8x16
CONSOLEMAP=koi2alt
USECOLOR="yes"

mount FAT partitions with -o codepage=866,iocharset=koi8-r

and create /etc/profile.d/gtk+.sh:

GDK_USE_XFT=1
export GDK_USE_XFT

G_BROKEN_FILENAMES=1
export G_BROKEN_FILENAMES

G_FILENAME_ENCODING=KOI8-R #@local

then chmod +x /etc/profile.d/gtk+.sh

the gtk+.sh fixes the problem when saving filenames with cyrillic letters in name from Firefox and other GTK apps.

EDIT: Note also that there are few ru keymaps (for example ru4 keymap is popular). You should try others and choose one that you like the most.
Oh, and don't forget to set full 8-bit output in Minight Commander.

It is in one of submenus of Options menu, I don't remember exact location, and I'm writing from windoze now. It will open dialog with 3 choices, one of them is 8-bit output.

Re: How make that be russian laters, but not '?????', of files?

Make that yuo say:

#/etc/rc.conf
LOCALE="ru_RU.KOI8-R"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE=Europe/Vilnius
KEYMAP=ru-cp1251
CONSOLEFONT=Cyr_a8x16
CONSOLEMAP=koi2alt
USECOLOR="yes"
mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/a -o codepage=866,iocharset=koi8-r

Midnight Commander: Options -> Display bits... -> Full 8 bits output.
And show, still, '?' of each russian letter of file.

It is something wrong wirh your locale files if MC has English menu.
Have you added/uncommented ru_RU.KOI8-R to your /etc/locale.gen and run locale-gen?

Re: How make that be russian laters, but not '?????', of files?

Midnight Commander not instaled.
I run it from source directory: '/a/mc-4.6.1/src', maybe it show english letters, because not properly installed?

In file /etc/locale.gen I uncomment this line:
ru_RU.KOI8-R    KOI8-R
And run locale-gen, restart computer, but still KDE Konqueror and Midnight Commander do not show russian leters on fat32 file system.

Why do you do so? You have mc in Current and mc-utf8 in Unsupported.

mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/a -o codepage=866,iocharset=koi8-r works 100%!

Does your console display cyrillic letters correctly?
Have you installed ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-dejavu and ttf-mph-2b-damase, ttf-freefont and/or other TTF/Type1 fonts that have cyrillic letters?
And what is your locale output now?

Re: How make that be russian laters, but not '?????', of files?

First I do not have Midnight Commander.

[root@myhost ~]# mc
bash: mc: command not found

Mount folowing, but not work:

mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/a -o codepage=866,iocharset=koi8-r

Terminal-console, then type 'nano' display russian letters correctly.
ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-mph-2b-damase fonts installed.
ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-dejavu, ttf-freefont can not find in packman database.
What is other TTF/Type1 fonts that have cyrillic letters?
rc.conf:
