[SOLVED] DBus permission error when launching Plasma/Wayland

It`s been a while since last time I user Arch. Anyways, I`m back.

I installed plasma desktop today and I want to use it with wayland. But I can only launch it as the root user. When I type `startplasmacompositor` as a normal user it gives me an error like

Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?

When I run

qdbus

it gives me

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/0/bus: Permission denied

Anyone could help me fix this?

Welcome to the arch linux forums ezequiel.ezb.  How are you logging in when you run `qdbus`?

I was logging as root and then changing to my normal user, but I eventually found out that's the problem. Neither startx nor startplasmacompositor works if you logged as root and then changed to your normal user or if root is logged in another tty.

I don't know if it was a bug but by logging directly and only with my normal user now allows me to run either startx or startplasmacompositor.

Thanks, you can mark it as solved if you want.

Since you are the thread creator and you are the only person that can properly determine if the issue was solved, you should be the one doing it, by editing your initial post and adding [SOLVED] or similar to the title

Also a fair warning, there are currently some known issues with Wayland in QT 5.9 and the way KWin tries to use it, so you might want to hold your hopes on a completely seamless experience https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/ … nd-beyond/
