Can't seem to get sound working on a new install

This is my 4th time installing Arch, but my first on this system. I've never had trouble getting sound to work before, honestly it's been so easy that I can't seem to recall how I did it.

My hardware on this system is:

CPU: AMD Ryzen r5 1600
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080
MOBO: Gigabyte Gaming r3

Don't think anything else is particularly relevant, but I'll post if it's needed. My speakers are built into my monitor, and it's plugged in with a DVI cable directly into the GPU. Sound works fine in Windows, but I don't like using Windows for development work.

I also have a USB headset that I use most of the time, but I'm trying to get sound working with the speakers before I dick around with that.

This new installation is still pretty barebones, I've got i3wm and chromium, that's about it. I've installed alsa-utils and pulseaudio

I've found a few other posts with a similar problem, and I'll try to post output that was recommended there:

Anyone who could point me in the right direction would be hugely appreciated. I suspect that I'm having an issue due to using sound from my GPU, as that's the biggest difference between this and previous systems. Thanks a ton for the help.

Re: Can't seem to get sound working on a new install

Since you seem to be using pulseaudio, are you sure you selected the correct output device from e.g. pavucontrol?

If you can't get that working, it may be better to get rid of pulseaudio, and try to get sound first with plain ALSA. Make sure you've unmuted your card, and use the correct device and channel count with speaker-test. It's all explained here.
