When I try to open any of the said file managers whether it be in the terminal, and graphically (dmenu).
Opening them as root (gksu) works instantly.
When I run any of the said file managers in terminal, it says this:
Error creating proxy: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gtk.vfs.GPhoto2VolumeMonitor: Timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24)Window Manager: i3wm

Try startx/xinit instead of lightdm and uninstall gvfs-gphoto2 to see whether org.gtk.vfs.GPhoto2VolumeMonitor is the (only) offender.

Also make sure that you can resolve your hostname to 127.0.0.1 because if you can't then something similar to that can happen.

You could try re-installing it.
Either there's a bug in the package (dependencies) or in the installation.
(But if you don't want or need it, simply dropping it is the easy solution ;-)
