How do I make GUI applications aware of an lpr printer

I have configured a print server and added a remote printwer using the lp* command front end for CUPS

lpr works as expected; I can print documents using the command line

If I try and print something via a GUI application, such as firefox or deocument-viewer, the printer that I created doesn't appear in the list of printers when I
select print from the toolbar. How can I make GUI applications aware of this printer that I added. I am using the XFCE DE

Assuming it's only gtk3 applications that are affected, then you probably just need to install the gtk3 printer backends package. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS#Installation

Pacman told you this when you installed gtk3.

Sakura:-
Mobo: MSI MAG X570S TORPEDO MAX // Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @4.9GHz // GFX: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT // RAM: 32GB (4x 8GB) Corsair DDR4 (@ 3000MHz) // Storage: 1x 3TB HDD, 6x 1TB SSD, 2x 120GB SSD, 1x 275GB M2 SSD

Making lemonade from lemons since 2015.
