Synaptics Trackpad/red dot failing to load [Thinkpad T410]

Hi so I have two input devices, a red dot:

 tpps/2 ibm trackpoint

and

 synps/2 synaptics touchpad

The red dot works fine, but its left click seems to cause this problem .

The touchpad's buttons also dont work at all.

Here is the xorg log:

Did you install the Synaptics Xorg driver xf86-input-synaptics? Because it's not using that and falling back to the libinput driver.
The reason why your touchpad buttons aren't working is because I think tap-to-click is disabled by default with the libinput driver. Post the output of "xinput list-props [your device ID]".
If it is, use one of the ways described in the Wiki to enable it permanently.

Re: Synaptics Trackpad/red dot failing to load [Thinkpad T410]

I'm also having since a while the problem that _sometimes_ the buttons (all three) belonging to the red dot aren't working.
After a reboot it's gone, so I suspect _sometimes_ sth. goes wrong on startup.

I'm using xf86-input-libinput, gnome doesn't support xf86-input-synaptics anymore.
This setup was working fine for a year. [T450s]

No apparently, I didn't, hmm, after installing it it seems to use synaptics for the touchpad but libinput for the trackpad (red dot), this is not a problem. All thats left to do is to get the touchpad buttons working.

Re: Synaptics Trackpad/red dot failing to load [Thinkpad T410]

I don't know why you insist on using the somewhat deprecated synaptics input driver. What does it do that libinput doesn't for you?

All thats left to do is to get the touchpad buttons working.

Change the Tap Action property to enable tapping. You can find out how on the Wiki.

Re: Synaptics Trackpad/red dot failing to load [Thinkpad T410]

I'm more familiar with synaptics.

edit: Also I believe libinput is causing this very annoying glitch

justasug wrote:

By touchpad buttons I am referring to the physical buttons not tapping on the touchpad, any ideas?

Adding onto the chrome glitch:

Here is the the output from xev for a lmb click:

ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x2000001,
    root 0xda, subw 0x0, time 1051069, (416,335), root:(419,358),

rmb click:

ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x2000001,
    root 0xda, subw 0x0, time 1054028, (416,335), root:(419,358),

    state 0x600, button 3, same_screen YES

Shouldnt the button's state be "0x0" when being pressed ?

Re: Synaptics Trackpad/red dot failing to load [Thinkpad T410]

I just tested it on my T410 with the Synaptics driver for the touchpad. The physical buttons work without any configuration.

This is what xev reports for me pressing the left, right buttons on the trackpoint (the red thing) and then the left and right buttons below the touchpad.

ButtonPress event, serial 48, synthetic NO, window 0x1c00001,

Re: Synaptics Trackpad/red dot failing to load [Thinkpad T410]

So I tried with a live USB of Ubuntu and my click buttons for the touchpad (not to be confused with the click buttons for the reddot) do not work. Does this mean the hardware is to  blame?

Also, on my button press event, it is state 0x200 where yours it state 0x0, state 0x200 seems to correspond to middle click, this explains my chrome glitch since chrome will close a tab on middle click.

This doesnt seem to happen consistently, the next time it happens I will save my  xorg log. Any ideas on why this is happening ?

Here is the  xorg log and xev output for the incorrect bootup:

Here is the xev output for a lmb click:

ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001,
    root 0xda, subw 0x0, time 529724, (217,258), root:(220,281),
    state 0x200, button 1, same_screen YES

ButtonRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001,
    root 0xda, subw 0x0, time 529857, (217,258), root:(220,281),
    state 0x300, button 1, same_screen YES

I removed the timestamps, here is the xorglog:

The only differences I noticed from the not working log:

(**) Option "config_info" "udev:/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/input/input6/event5"

From the working log:

< (**) Option "config_info" "udev:/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/input/input7/event5"

There were some other differences similar to this,
