Re: Tried Gentoo, didn't like it, here are my conclusions

Thanks for giving me the advice,
I think maybe if I changed the "but" in the confusing post to "and" and started a new line to say "I love Arch" could make it a little clearer.
Well , a little off topic.

Okay, I'm not trying to be annoying here, but the space only goes after the punctuation mark, and not before it.

Of course, you can always make your own style and be unique smile.

Re: Tried Gentoo, didn't like it, here are my conclusions

I prefer space before , and after , all my " Punctuation " , so my spell checker works , and it's easier to read ( for Me , anyhow ) big_smile
The Older you get , the more Whitespace you'll need  lol

Re: Tried Gentoo, didn't like it, here are my conclusions

For me Gentoo is awesome but from the time my install got wasted becuase reiserfs slowed down I have not reinstalled I'll keep with Arch Linux maybe until Gentoo 2006.1 comes out since I am one of the testers of the release. wink I just love Arch Linux as well and I am a user of both. 8)

What do you have to say about it?

OT: <deep_slow_voice> This was EADs last post. He disappeared without leaving a trace. Maybe some of us will miss him </deep_slow_voice> - I'm sure I wont.  lol

Not that I personaly had a lot to do with him, but I can't help, I found him kind of annoying...

Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch. smile

LOL EAD did you ever lasted a week with Gentoo, LOL. Gentoo deserves more from the user than the user can give sometimes, thats the reality. I saw you there at Gentoo. lol

Re: Tried Gentoo, didn't like it, here are my conclusions

Here is another old gentoo user ( for two days.. ).
My opinion..
The install wans't very hard but i have had read very well the docs for the install.Then.. i want to install kde from binaries because my cpu is too slow for compiling.. ( i can't be without pc for more than two days smile ) and emerge is POOR if you need to install binaries i haven't seen more stupid binary support in all distros i've ever seen. After a lot of tries, errors and etc all was ready to install kde.. after downloading it takes about hour or hour and a bit to run my kde.. then other problem!KDE was lagging.. i don't know why ( i was with gentoo-kernel ) again after a lot of tries and other..i installed vanilla-kernel and all was fine but...i don't like it ( one of the reasons to install gentoo was that one of my friends use gentoo and said it's the speedest distro ) but it doesn't seem that after install. After TWO days with the most stupid distro gentoo.. and a lot of ocupations about it.. i see archlinux.org and i read about pacman and etc and.. i LOVED it big_smile

perhaps because gentoo is NOT a binary distro.  will it does have some binaries, the whole point of it is to install from source.    wink

Re: Tried Gentoo, didn't like it, here are my conclusions

gentoo's fine. but it's for übergeeks.
i used to use it. i got addicted. geekiness is nice because you believe you learn things.
then i got bored and went to arch. but sometimes arch is just not geeky enough...
i'll get back to gentoo the day i'll be able to compile kde+OOo in less than 1 hour. i don't think that will ever happen. or will it ?

Re: Tried Gentoo, didn't like it, here are my conclusions

I was Gentoo user for one day. I went to Arch, because compiling processes took me too much of time. I think i needed about an hour for Firefox and Gaim.
Arch is very good distro and i think i will stay here smile

You're absolutely right but comparing with gentoo-wikis it's possible to install kde from binaries WITHOUT problems.. ( my goal was to isntall only kde from binaries .. and base from stage3 all other i think to compile ) but.. ;]

No problem.  I feel that a common thread with former gentoo users is that they get tired of compiling.  I've been there too.  I don't have a cutting edge system, so it doesn't compile very fast for me.  Arch does everything i want, and i can get my jones on much faster.   lol

I'm preatty much one of the most controversial guys in Gentoo. wink Here I try to clean my reputation. lol
