I'm setting up plasma from the wiki page, but although there's a section about deciding on which Phonon backend to use, there doesn't seem to be very much about the choice between libx264 and libx264-10bit. The only useful info I could find was this reddit thread, but given that that's two years old, I decided that it'd be best to ask now, and possibly add a section to the wiki page.
So, what are the differences between the two, and how should the decision be made?

this has only a very tangential relation with plasma, but are dependencies of the multimedia related chain of packages that come with the phonon installation. So you shouldn't edit the plasma page because of that.
This particular library is only relevant if you intend to encode video and in which bit format you would want to encode video in. It doesn't have any relation to playback. If you intend to encode video the 10bit are of higher quality but usually don't have as broad of a hardware support and you might not be able to play the resulting output file in other hardware (TVs, DVD players etc.)
For what you want to know in the scope of this thread, it doesn't matter and will certainly not have a relation on anything you will want to do with plasma

Ok, thanks! I'll proceed with the regular version then, and anyone who needs it in the future can find this thread.
