Possible to completely kill output stream to monitor?

Hello Archers,

After a demonstration in class, I've been experimenting around with reading directly from /dev/input/mouse0 and /dev/input/event* (via some C programming).  It has me thinking about other things you could do with device files.  I've searched (forums, google, my computer) for the device file(s) that must be streaming to my monitors, but cannot seem to find them.  I want know if device files even exist for monitors/displays, and if there is some way they could possibly be removed or made to stream to or link to /dev/null.

Note that I'm not talking about turning the monitor off or locking the screen, I already know how to do these things.  I would like to completely kill output to my monitor (it's okay if it is unreversible).  My working environment is entirely in a virtual console (no X here).

Thanks.
