When trying to open a .dvi file with evince document viewer I get the following error message:
Unhandled MIME type: 'application/x-dvi'
Its been a while since the last time I needed to open a .dvi file but it used to be possible with evince on my Arch box.
Any ideas what to do, or suggestions for an alternative document viewer.

I tried rebuilding evince with added line --enable-dvi in the PKGBUILD. Now I don't get the error message but instead evince crashes when I try to open a .dvi file.
Any help would really be appreciated.

Well, there's always konqueror with integrated kdvi component. And xdvi used to show DVI files pretty decently.

There is a fixed package in the Arch Repos now, if I interpret that right. Works for me.
Todays mistakes are tomorrows catastrophes.

I get the error with the latest version of evince. Maybe I try xdvi.

According the their website, dvi support does not require anything extra but is still experimental. The only things requiring something extra are PowerPoint and DJVU.

Just cant get Evince to open dvi files. Xdvi works fine. Its funny because I've been using Evince to view dvi files before.
