Persistent USB Help (Yes, I read the Wiki page)

Hey!

I'm an essentially new GNU/Linux user (I used Ubuntu and Linux Mint for a time in the past). I want to use Linux so that I don't have to deal with programming in Python on Windows, when I've heard it's easier in Linux. I chose Arch because my system must fit on a 16GB USB drive, and I like minimalism. I need help with a particular part of the USB install process. So, I read the wiki page here: (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _a_USB_key), but it was confusing. So, I found a guide here (http://valleycat.org/linux/arch-usb.html). It's good, but I want to leave, say, 250MB, for Windows, so that it can be a functioning drive as well. How would I do this, and where would I do it in the installation process?

Also, if someone could check out the guide I found, and make sure that it's correct, it would be much appreciated.

Right here.  Just make one partition for Windows.

You may want that to be the first partition - it's been ages since I used windows, but it used to be that Windows would only recognize the first partition on any removable media.  There were tricks to work around that, but it's best to just make Windows happy and put the shared/windows data partition first.

EDIT: oops, I see the only point I realy addressed was already clearly covered in the wiki page you claimed to read.  So I'm at a loss at what the question here really is.

What was confusing? Specifics are required, not generalisations.

No-one is going to read an unsupported guide and tell you what to do; that isn't how Arch works.

Sorry, I'm very new here smile . How do I tell the computer to install on the USB and not my hard drive? I don't think it says it on the Installation Tutorial...

You mount the USB key and that is then the target for the installation: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … le_systems
