Gnome 3.26 Scaling broken for Firefox, Chromium, ...

Firefox and Chromium are always scaled by 200% no matter which display scaling is set.
It makes no difference to use a X11 or Wayland session, the problem occurs in both.
I also tried to set `org.gnome.desktop.interface.scaling-factor` to 1 but it looks like this value is ignored, so I reset it to the default.
The scaling issue in Chromium can be fixed by using the `--force-device-scale-factor=1` flag.
Setting `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` to 1 in Firefox looks totally broken because the web page is scaled but the window decorations have the 100% scaling size and use 200% scaled fonts.
Native GTK3 apps seem to work fine, but everything else has at least 200% scaled titelbars.
Switching between a HiDPI Laptop display and a normal DPI desktop monitor is unbearable, gosh.
Any ideas how to fix the scaling issues?

I can recommend to use Cinnamon as long as this issue is not fixed in Gnome. Cinnamon works pretty well.

Re: Gnome 3.26 Scaling broken for Firefox, Chromium, ...

I just updated this morning and the scaling issues have improved in GNOME 3.26. Fractional scaling for multiple displays with different resolutions seems to work.

But all the issues are not completely resolved: Some windows (native GTK?) show things like menus and text with acceptable (to me at least) sizes; Title bars on all windows appear to be scaled according to the highest resolution monitor (Dell XPS 15, 3480 x 2160). Thunderbird email messages and Firefox pages appear scaled correctly, but buttons and menus are "larger" than I would like.

My /org/gnome/mutter/experimental-features currently includes 'scale-monitor-framebuffer', and I disabled that option with no apparent difference in the scaling.

I wonder what others' experiences are?

My experience has generally been "ok". The scaling doesn't seem to work well with app icons in the full screen menu. Fonts tend to look a little blurry to me too.

I've gone back to xorg and just have fonts set to large in universal access for now. Suits me well enough until this improves.

I think you are experiencing the same issue as me: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=788744

Edit: I managed to solve the problem. The gsetting org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings was somehow set to {'Gtk/ShellShowsAppMenu': <0>}. The solution was to revert it to the default value, which is {}.
