I don't know if this is the right section for this but here goes.
I didn't have my laptop for week so the first thing I do when I get it back is update everything. After the update X freezes ~10 seconds after booting. I tried downgrading linux-lts to 4.9.52-1 and nvidia-lts to 384.90-1, but this didn't help at all. I was able to get it working by downgrading everything to Oct 03(I didn't try any dates in between) from the archive. The Oct 03 archive uses the same versions of linux-lts and nvidia-lts that I attempted to downgrade to. My laptop is a MSI GL62 with a Nvidia GTX960M. What steps should I try from this point?
Update: The issue seems to be this: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55896. Ignoring xorg-server* in my pacman.conf was enough to allow me to update the rest of my system.

Isolate that it's actually an Xorg issue (try access to a linux console or via ssh; next try startx xterm to rule out your desktop session)
If it's an Xorg issue, check the xorg log and also try to investigate the nature of the freeze ("xterm -display :0" from a linux console - either a window will show up or you'll get an error) - otherwise figure the actual culprit.

I was able to switch to tty2-6, and they worked fine. I'll try startx xterm once I have time.

Are you using nvidia-drm.modeset=1? If so, see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55896

I am using nvidia-drm.modeset=1. This does seem to be the most likely cause. I suppose I'll keep an eye on that issue untill it's fixed.
