Strange behaviour with my screen

I have a problem with my screen on my laptop (HP elitebook 820).

I don't really know how to describe it but sometimes my display is going wrong (pictures).

Restarting server X can solve the problem but not every time.

When I take a screenshot, the picture is normal and when I plug a second screen the display is normal but not on the laptop screen.

I have the same problem using Ubuntu.

Re: Strange behaviour with my screen

What graphics driver are you using for X? intel, or modeset? Please post the xorg log and journal from an affected session.

Re: Strange behaviour with my screen

Try the modeset driver instead and see if that helps. I use modeset on an elitebook 840 and have no problems with that.

See the note in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … stallation

Re: Strange behaviour with my screen

This is plasma? Does it also happen with eg. openbox (or icewm)?
Does it go away if you suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12)?

Re: Strange behaviour with my screen

Yes it is Plasma. I didn't try with openbox or icewm but it also happen with Gnome.

It don't go away if I suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12).

Re: Strange behaviour with my screen

It's a bit scary that only the eDP seems affected - does it also happen with the linux-lts kernel?

Re: Strange behaviour with my screen

So it's not the kernel version, not the ddx driver and only affects the internal screen...?
What's the output of

xrandr -q

You can probably choose different 1366x768 variants, try whether you can reproduce them with each...
