hey, lately no matter what I use to upgrade or add a package from AUR I get errors:
yaourt -S yaourt-gui
==> Downloading yaourt-gui PKGBUILD from AUR...
x .SRCINFO: Write failed
x PKGBUILD: Write failed
x yaourt-gui.install: Write failed
bsdtar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
/usr/bin/makepkg: line 2148: warning: command substitution: ignored null byte in input
/usr/bin/makepkg: line 753: source: /tmp/yaourt-tmp-harv/aur-yaourt-gui/./tmp.43NEqlqP3y: cannot execute binary file
==> ERROR: Failed to source /tmp/yaourt-tmp-harv/aur-yaourt-gui/./tmp.43NEqlqP3y
Unable to read PKGBUILD
that just an example. happens as pamac package manager is upgrading also

Moving to AUR issues.
Try it by hand. IIRC, yaourt uses /tmp as it wreaks its havoc instead of the users home directory tree. I bet it has to do with /tmp being full.

first, thanx for moving this to the right forum.
Try it by hand.
I don't quite follow.

yes it is.
do I need to dump everything in /tmp?

"By hand" means building the package with makepkg.

To expand on hcjl's post: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ar … Repository
As to the contents of /tmp and yaourt; I've no good advice. Check as to whether /tmp is full, and whether you can write to it. I would not empty it without understanding what is there and why.
As to good advice I can offer -- don't use yaourt. Learn to do it by hand; THEN pick an AUR helper after reading this article. Hint: Try to pick one that is not bleeding red.

meaning yaourt and pamac which are no good from what I've been told. according to this link https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AU … ison_table
this is a pacaur is a good one. I've used makepkg by hand many times. I just need a helper that can update my AUR packages. I should of clarified that. thanx. I do know when a helper fails to use makepkg. I just didn't get the 'try by hand' phrase. Now I know. :-)
