open-vm-tools package

I installed the open-vm-tools package (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … -vm-tools/) but I think it includes an old network script from 2010 and the old script does not work with systemd.

Comparing https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools … ux/network
to https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/comm … n-vm-tools

I tried to contact the maintainers (Sergej Pupykin) but haven't gotten a response.

Can anyone tell me whom/where I can ask about this?

Re: open-vm-tools package

Looks like it's actively updated and has systemd service files.

Do you notice any problems? Or are you simply curious about the file?

Yes, it looks like, it even has the same version number. But why does it come with the old network script from 2010 instead of the new one?

The problem is that whenever the VM is suspended it calls the network script - but since it's the old one it can't suspend/restore systemd's networkd (which results in an incorrect ip address for the adapter when I resume).

Re: open-vm-tools package

You are referring  to the network-script file that is installed to etc/vmware-tools/scripts/vmware/network ?

That script appears to support networkmanager and netctl , i guess you have neither installed ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: open-vm-tools package

That's right. /etc/vmware-tools/scripts/vmware/network only supports those two while the version on Github also supports networkd.

Re: open-vm-tools package

Looking at the PKGBUILD and the used scripts suggest sometime in the past arch devs customized the upstream network script to work better (added netctl support) on arch linux.
After that happened upstream changed https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools … ux/network , but arch devs missed that.

I suggest you create a bug report alerting them to this.
