nvidia optimus unresponsiveness and bumblebee

I am having a problem on a system with nvidia gtx 1050 and i915, that is optimus configuration. Using proprietary drivers.

The problem is, when i boot with bumblebeed.service enabled, graphical login does not get displayed, and system becomes unresponsive.

However, when I boot with bumblebeed disabled, I can login fine. And after login, I can start bumblebeed through systemctl. And then all nvidia drivers work fine. Using wayland and Gnome

my grub config does not involve any other thing nomodeset et al. Just
pcie_apsm=force

I am using it this way since kernel 4.12.13 I think. When Nvidia updated its drivers to 384.90.

This is good enough but it took me some time and research to reach this level of stability smile.

What could be causing the system to become totally unresponsive during boot when the bumblebee service is enabled?

When the system booted with bumblebee disabled, and try to run optirun glxgears:

$ optirun glxgears

now enable bumblebeed:

$ sudo systemctl start bumblebeed.service 
$
$ optirun glxgears
15237 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3047.267 FPS
14853 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2970.576 FPS

Journal output when bumblebee service was enabled.
Only a few of the services could start according to the journal.
The system was unresponsive at this point so had to reboot into rescue mode (adding rescue into grub linux command line) and disable bumblebee in systemctl and then systemctl default.

Don't force ASPM and explicitly disable aspm for your graphics card pci bus. If you use laptop mode tools or powertop or TLP make sure that relevant knobs for enabling power saving are disabled for the graphics card. Install bbswitch. Retry.

uninstalled powertop... 
bbswitch is present (community/bbswitch 0.8-81)
