I use mdm and was hit by the same issue this morning (updated last night before going to bed... lol.... always a bad thing to do). Update fixed it.
Please vote for all the AUR packages you're using. You can mass-vote for all of them by doing: "pacman -Qqm | xargs aurvote -v" (make sure to run "aurvote --configure" first)

Using the Arch Build System (asp export gdm) and tweaking the PKGBUILD, I rebuilt the newly patched GDM (3.26.2.1), All working again, It was caused by the new "Initialize" system they set up.

Another here using lightDM and got also stuck at boot (Failed to start Ligth Display Manager). I'm trying to use a USB stick to boot and to recover my system.

As said in the bug report, 3.26.2.1-1 works. At least it does for me.

Status of bug report was changed to "fixed". I can confirm that now after upgrade everything is good.
Shall we mark this issue as "[Solved]"?

No need to chroot:
Édit the linux line in grub by adding
systemd.unit=rescue.target
And boot

Confirm everything works with the new version of gdm. I used chroot to solve this, turns out it was unnecessary (but educative, at least).

Yes, I agree we can mark this as solved! I'm sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for this tip.
I don't use grub, I use EFISTUB instead.
Thus I used chroot beacuse I thought it was the simplest thing to do, without messing with EFI boot records.
Do you have any other suggestion when using EFISTUB?
Thanks

I can not edit first post adding the [SOLVED] mark. It lets me change the title to the original old one.
Is there a maximum number (1) of edits one can do to a thread title?

No but there is a maximum character limit, just strip some of the fluff like 'after upgrade' and explicitly writting out 'version'

Done. Thanks!
