Re: [SDDM] startup sound

sddm doesn't boot anything. It is just a display manager. What are you trying to do exactly?

Re: [SDDM] startup sound

Plymouth typically starts LOOOOOONG before the sound HW has been probed, initialized and configured, so this is not going to work at all.
Leaving aside any questions about "why in gods name would anybody want to do this", you could add some systemd service that starts after the sound.target or so, but that's it.

Really? I don't have any special settings but I usually get sound about a full second before init has finished.

That's still after Plymouth would start but not that long.

Re: [SDDM] startup sound

plymouth and sddm are very different things and start at very different points in the boot process. I guess you could probably get a sound when sddm starts, as you originally asked. But that would be much later than plymouth.

Usually, people want to STOP things making sounds - not add them smile.

Re: [SDDM] startup sound

"LOOOOOONG" is relative ;-)

plymouth covers the boot process which typically does not last as long as starting sddm (if you use sddm ...) and sound will typically be fully available later than half through this (relatively short) process - especially when also using PA.
(I guess you could get it earlier by adding oss to the initrmfs and then remove it when the sound has finished ...)

So "a full second before init has finished" lacks how you define init and how long the "init" process takes in total - eg. if your entire "init" takes 20 seconds and you get sound after 19 seconds, that's "LOOOOOONG" tongue
