Nvidia gt-1030 X freezes [Solved]

I bought a new gt-1030 card for a new build computer. Using the card with a dell 27 inch 4k monitor connected via display port. usiing current nvidia drivers i get X freezes that are very bad and cannot really work in X. using wayland (not recommended with nvidia driver) it is fairly stable but not very good. using latest kernel the nouveau dri is not recognized and nouveau  will not load under wayland or X. I believe there is no nouveau support for the pascal cards at this time and that is the reason.

can anyone recommend any configs for xorg.conf.d that might make it more stable ? or resolve the issues. I would prefer to use X with the nvidia driver.  thank you for any help.l

Re: Nvidia gt-1030 X freezes [Solved]

I have GTX- 1080 and 1080ti that is Pascal. Both work just fine with latest Nvidia drivers. Nvidia black lists nouevau during install if i remember correctly. Have you tried a live cd with graphics (like Fedora or Ububtu to see if the graphics work ok in that environment?
Like you say, Pascal don't support nouveau yet.

Re: Nvidia gt-1030 X freezes [Solved]

thanks for the tip. i saw something on the ubuntu forums where users were complaining about this card. but i will try maybe with fedora. i was hoping someone may have some experience with settings to possibly overcome the freezes. i have an older gt 730 but i could only get 30hz at 4k with this monitor.
