OpenWRT compilation fails early on x86_64

Hi.
I have arch on x86_64 PC, I am trying to compile openWRT custom sources from Netgear, and the compilation fails when I run 'make menuconfig'.
'make clean' succeds, but normal 'make' fails and also 'make menuconfig'. The error is:

$ make menuconfig V=s
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/work/7.1.1/scripts/config'
/usr/bin/ld: zconf.tab.o: relocation R_X86_64_32S against symbol `symbol_yes' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** [Makefile:32: mconf] Error 1

Is this a missing package?
