ping - "No response" vs "Destination host unreachable"?

This isn't a current problem - resetting my router fixed the issue. I'm just wondering what the difference is between "No response" and "Destination host unreachable". I get the second one often, because Comcast is terrible, but last night was the first time I've ever seen "No response". In both cases, I can retrieve a steady ping from my router at 192.168.0.1, but I can't get a return from Google or from 8.8.8.8. Again, this is not presently a problem I need fixed, but it's not something I've ever seen before. What's the difference?

No response means that the host did not receive a response from the host, but was able to reach it.
Destination host unreachable means that there was no valid route to the requested host.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: ping - "No response" vs "Destination host unreachable"?

Huh. Any idea what that could mean infrastructure-wise? Was there a legitimate service outage if I get "no response", since I could ping out to the infrastructure but it didn't give anything back, where "destination host unreachable" would mean my router couldn't send anything out?
