Gnome chess preferences not working

I just installed gnome chess, and noticed that apparently the preferences window is broken (no "close" button). Also when selecting a computer opponent (gnu chess in my case) the level difficulty cannot be chosen. In any case any attempt at saving preferences did not work as every game starts with a human opponent. I have tried to look at the bugs and there is nothing there.
