Different errors when booting. And out of space on /boot.

When booting my computer, I get the following errors.

invalid compressed format(err=1)
VFS: Cannot open root device "hda8" or unkown block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing:VFS Unable to mount fs on unknown block(0,0)

My computer fail to boot.

Any idea what might be wrong?

I'm also out of space on my /boot partition. So I need to make it bigger. How can this be done?

Orjanp...

Re: Different errors when booting. And out of space on /boot.

The first, if there are not mistakes in your bootloader config, should be a problem with mkinitcpio. Which hooks are you using?

The second issue depends on the filesystem you use. If e.g. ext2, then ext2resize and fdisk are the tools you need

This issue can also be used when the driver for the ide/sata controller on the motherboard isnt compilled into the kernel.

use lspci -v to find out the chipset and then change the driver(s) for it in the kernel from <M> to <*>
