I recently installed Arch on a computer (it had Fedora on it before).
I migrated /home to the new system, and it works with my user, but not with the others.
When I try to login with a user, only a black screen appears and a mouse cursor, which can be moved but nothing else. I tried to delete the user and it's home directory as well, and recreate it, but the results were the same.
With my user, everything works perfectly, and I can login to the tty with the problematic users too, just not to the graphical interface.
I can't find any relevant error messages anywhere, but I'll provide any logfile needed.
Thanks

remove ~/,X-error (or similar name), that somethimes prevented in the past (for me multiple times) kde from boot up. If that fail, delete plasma cache and if again fail reset all plasma conf. see https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/a … 37597.html
KF5/Plasma 5 settings are stored in to XDG_CONFIG_HOME. so if this
variable is not set you can clear ~/.config and ~/.cache.. If you just
want to reset just plasma 5 settings delete
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc and
~/.config/plasmarc files

I have the exact same issue and I can reproduce it by changing the desktop layout to "Desktop" instead of the default "Folder View". I can edit the plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc file and logout to fix it. Could it be a faulty update or package?

I'm having the same issue with an old intel PC and it's still not working.

Having the same issue since I updated the system and rebooted it. Tried your suggestions, but it didn't work. Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Less "me too"s, more relevant information is necessary for anyone to be able to help any one of you.
What is common in your environments, do you get errors in your xorg.log/journal ? Have you tried soyel's suggestion, what are the contents of your plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc and plasmarc files?
I don't have any issues on neither my intel nor nvidia gpu systems.

How exactly do you make this change? I tried to find information on how to do it, but was unlucky.
Thanks.

Hi,
In my case, journalctl showed some problem related to kactivitymanagerd. So I just renamed .local/share/kactivitymanagerd/ logged out and in and it worked. Hope this helps.
