Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hello.
I have had some problems with qt lately... Problems starting skype and some other programs.
Errors related to libqt-mt.so.3 in some way.

It seems like the correct line wasn't added to /etc/ld.so.conf "/opt/qt/lib"
Have i done something wrong, or problems with some installation scripts?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Yeah... I am finally back online (my NIC onboard was defect, so I had to return the mainboard to the seller). Updated 64Bit packages follow tomorrow evening \o/...

Well, just a quick poll: Who uses 64Bit arch and KDEmod?

About the KPDF issue. I tried kpdf2 and I have to say I'll stick with the old one, nothing really new in the fork. Those XML files are enerving *g*

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I just clean installed Arch. So I had no X.

Instead of installing KDE, I installed kdemod. I think I've found a bug.

It seems that kdemod doesn't depends on Xorg, which absolutly needs wink

Thanx

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

After two days of playing with KDEMOD, I must say I am very happy with it. It even reconciled me with Arch. Why? Because I think it's important to have a beautiful and powerful desktop, not just a plain stock one. For example, the Gnome logout is a pain. Their is multiple entries in the menu, each with a different confirmation dialog (Menu, logout, "Are you sure you want to logout?" or Menu, reboot,  "Are you sure you want to reboot?", etc.) The same problem shows up in gentoo (or whatever distro includes only the stock "vanilla" gnome).

I'm talking about gnome because this is what I'm using since a couple of month. But the same applies to KDE. The default themes, wallpapers, icons, etc. are not interesting. It's hard to get something beautiful. It is a challenge to personalize your desktop to get something beautiful because you need to change everything (kde-look.org for icons, window border, splash screen, etc...)

This is exactly what ubuntu is achieving: On first look, you say "Wow!". (I'm back to arch, I couldn't stand ubuntu and find arch way supperior) I hope their work on gnome gets upstream.

Anyway, all this to say: Thanx for the work on KDEMOD! I really like the suse menu, splitting of packages (I like KDE apps, but their are so many of them that I don't want to use), icon feedback is great, a nice wallpaper, etc.

So thanx again!!!

I just tryed kpdf2 and I am really happy about the note taking (indeed its only bookmarks). I often hear "on linux their is nothing to edit pdf". While it is (mostly) untrue, it was quite difficult/unstable. After thinking about the problem, I though the easiest thing would be to have a program that will allow you to "edit" a pdf, while saving the modifications to another file. That way you don't need to really edit the pdf. For example, for a form, if you want to add text or check a checkbox, that program could detect where some text could be entered and where to put checkmarks, and save those informations in another file. This is exactly the approach of kpdf2 and while its not the best/long-term, it should be easy to do and at least provides some functionality of Adobe Pro.

Now, when someone will say "hey, don't send me your pdf created from latex because I can't add text to it, send me a word file", I will be happy to tell them "Please don't cry, it is possible to add text or comments to pdf files in a FREE way, without being tied to windows and adobe."

I must admit having .xml files associated with your pdf is quite annoying. But I'm ready to pay that price for being able to add comments to pdf!!!

Thanx again KDEMOD devs!

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I've been using kdemod lately and love it. However, after upgrading to 3.5.6, the kicker keeps crashing. I'm using kickoff and put my window menu in the top (mac-os style). It crashes randomly and sometimes when I browse through kickoff tabs. The backtrace to the command-line is:

I just installed it right now. It's going to take a bit to get used to. There is quite a lot of change with this build. I'll keep following this thread and input when I see a need.

Thanks for doing this. It's great not having my harddrive polluted by KDE programs that I will never use.

This feels a lot quicker. Maybe placebo? Maybe an enhanced QT? I'm not sure, but I'm liking it...

There's kind of a lot of small programs on my system right now, and I'm curious if they couldn't be split out. Stuff like KJots.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hi,
after a couple of days with kdemod, I really like it. I have 2 issues though...

First, the kickoff menu is not translated. I'm sure to have find something about that somewhere but I can't find it... Any clue?

Second, after a couple of minutes of the screen saver my CPU get to 100%... I realized this because my fan is turning like hell. When I move the mouse the cpu get back on idle... This is weird because the screensaver is a blank one ("Empty screen" from kcontrol). It's set after 5 minutes. In kcontrol->Display->Energy Saving nothing is set. What can be wrong?

Thanx

Thanx! I didn't read the ~30 pages of post and unfortunately, one cannot search inside a post...
Does it stop sometimes? I ran "beagled --indexing-test-mode" but it exited immediately. Does that mean that it is ready and wont update everything?

I get the same errors for superkaramba as mentioned above.  What packages do I actually need to install to load superk?  i do have GNOME installed so I figured I would have that gtk, but apparently I do not.  Can anyone tell me the two packages? smile

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Has anyone from the kdemod-Team thought about not having kdemod-kdebase as dependency for all the kdemod-Programs?

AFAIK all of them don't really require kdemod and it would be good if one could choose between a normal, unpatched, modular KDE-Desktop (using qt, kdelibs and kdebase from the normal package repository) or a patched, modular KDE-Desktop (using the kdemod equivalents).

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hello,

After my last pacman -Suy kopete crashes when going to the Configure/Devices tab.
Seems to be a problem with libkopete_videodevice, as shown by the messages below :

kopete: [int Kopete::AV::VideoDevice::startCapturing()] called.
kopete: [int Kopete::AV::VideoDevice::startCapturing()] exited successfuly.
kopete: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/libkopete_videodevice.so.0: undefined symbol: _ZN6Kopete2AV11yuyv2qimageEP6QImagePhii

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Great work on KDEMod!

One thing tho, I've read that the official x86_64 kdebase is patched with fixed NPAPI headers to make nspluginwrapper work (if this is true), you may wanna do the same.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hi, could you include KMail in kdemod repo? I like this app and I'm missing it, but I don't wanna install whole kdenetwork package from extra. Pls.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

jardasmid,
kmail is included in the default kdemod install (kdemod-kdepim-base)
it should be installed when you did "pacman -S kdemod" ...

mata_svada,
...and then imagine an update, for example the official packages get updated before kdemod... this could result in a broken kde, so i dont think that we will ever do this... however, you could do it for yourself if it bothers.

sorry, i dont have much time now... i think the next time i will put more work in it will be the 3.5.7 release...

funkyou, tell me, why unsermake is used for building kdebase and kdebase-kicker?
(kdebase is missing unsermake dependency on the other hand).

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Do you mean compilation problems or stability problems?
I had no problems with compilation but kicker build with unsermake dies without warning many times.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

i mean compilation problems... afaik kicker doesnt even build without unsermake, so if you have build it with standard make, an explanation would be useful for me smile

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I've just installed kdevelop from kdemod and I saw a strange error: Can't make language plugin for C++. That window shows just after Make New Project window. I can see the same error whith c/c++/java. What's going on?
