Pacman is still claiming that kdemod isn't in the db.  Any updates?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Heya, the current akregator keeps crashing whenever i use the up and down arrow buttons on my keyboard

the errormsg is the following:
akregator: symbol lookup error: /opt/kde/lib/kde3/libakregatorpart.so: undefined symbol: _ZN9KHTMLView8scrollByEii

I just have the kdemod packages and no "normal" kde packages

thanks for the great work ! smile

i686 or x86_64? i686 should work, i have to ask Dunkelstern about the 64bit packages... There seems to be some b0rkage in the 64bit repo right now...

I do not know what actually went wrong, but it seems as if I got problems with the repo as well.

fixed, just forgot to upload the new kopete package...

btw, i have removed the jingle support from kopete because its just too buggy and we dont have time to improve our patches... The .install file is not updated yet, just ignore the messages about jingle/jabber for now...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hate to be a nag, but I'm still having problems with the x86_64 repo.  Again, the error is:

kdemod not found in synced db

Could this be a problem on my end?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

rbrownclown,

at first check your pacman.conf entry... It should look like this on x86_64:

[kdemod]
Server = http://kdemod.ath.cx/repo/current/x86_64

If your entry is correct, we'll have to wait for Dunkelstern because he is the one running x86_64... I will tell him about when he is online again.

Also, you could try to install some single packages from the repo as the error message is not very clear for me... Are you trying to install the kdemod group or does this happen when you do an update?

That's what I have in pacman.conf.

This is a fresh install, so I'm trying to install the kdemod group.  I typed a command (forget what it was) that searched to see if the group kdemod existed, and nothing came up.  The individual packages are still there, though.  I'm assuming the repo just doesn't have the packages grouped.

Thanks for putting up with my constant nagging.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hm, thats weird because we are using the same pkgbuilds both for i686 and x86_64... Maybe its something about pacman3 which Dunkelstern is using...

To install all contents of the group as indivudual packages, just do this:

pacman -Sy kdemod-arts kdemod-kde-common kdemod-kdeaddons-base kdemod-kdebase kdemod-kdebase-kicker kdemod-kdegraphics-base kdemod-kdelibs kdemod-kdemultimedia-base kdemod-kdenetwork-base kdemod-kdepim-base kdemod-kdeutils-base qt-enhanced

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Funkyou,

I can confirm that Pacman (3.0.3-1) does not see the kdemod group for installation in x86_64. It does see it for package removal.

[skottish@localhost ~]$ sudo pacman -S kdemod
error: 'kdemod': not found in sync db
[skottish@localhost ~]$ sudo pacman -R kdemod
:: group kdemod:
    kdemod-arts kdemod-kde-common kdemod-kdebase kdemod-kdebase-kicker
    kdemod-kdegraphics-base kdemod-kdelibs kdemod-kdemultimedia-base
    kdemod-kdenetwork-base kdemod-kdepim-base kdemod-kdeutils-base
    qt-enhanced

That's weird.  Now, it's throwing out the same error for each one of those.  I can still see the individual packages, though.  I'm not using pacman 3.

First: Kdemod is cool! smile
I have two questions

1.: Where is "kedit" ?

2.: How do I activate Spell-checking in -for example- kate? There's an error, that it's not correctly installed, but pacman tells me "aspell" is there. I thought that's sufficient? Never had problems with spellchecking.

Do you have the aspell language files installed?

[skottish@localhost ~]$ sudo pacman -Qs aspell
local/aspell 0.60.5-1
A Free and Open Source spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell
local/aspell-en 6.0-1
    English dictionary for aspell

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

To all 64 Bit users:

I think something went wrong with the new pacman. I'll reupload the packages built by pacman 2 after I backuped my system and reinstalled pacman 2.x.

It's in the pipeline but there may be some days until it's finished completely.

Sorry about the inconvenience, please be patient. I have some problems with my 64Bit computer right now (old mainboard borked out, and the new one crashes all the time.)

Well, I'm on it *g*

1. Its not included (yet), because i thought that 2 editors (kate and kwrite) might be enough for everyone... However, if there are some requests, then we will include it with 3.5.7

2. Can you tell me the error? Also start kate from a console and look if there are some additional messages about this... Syntax highlighting works without problems here - i cant find an option for spellchecking in kate...

It's global. You can manually spell check by going through the 'Tools' menu in either KWrite or Kate. I haven't seen an option to set it to automatic.

Yes, you are right, it's enough and it always bothered me that vanilla kde installs three or four apps for the same task. I just have the feeling that a base install of kdemod should include only "kedit" and kate and kwrite should be optional, because they are the bigger apps right? smile

Solved with the hint of the post above. There was no "aspell-de" package install. Now works flawlessly. smile

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

@funkyou: I have another suggestion. As you include a lot of patches and thank kubuntu devels on you homepage:

Is it possible for you to find out, what they patched to have a working kdebluetooth?

Right now I can't pair with my mobile, because bluez dropped "pin_helper" support and uses DBUS now (I hope this makes sense, as I have it from the net and I'm missing any inside knowledge about this)

kbluetooth is expecting kde-pinhelper to pop up and ask for a pin, and this does not work. In the recent kubuntu-version this works out of the box and the kde  pinhelper pops up. Just installed kubuntu and did not need to hassle with this. Maybe you can ask them what they did and integrate it in kdemod?

EDIT: Aaah, found it : http://websvn.kde.org/branches/work/kde … tegration/

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Well, kdebluetooth is not a part of KDE but extra stuff, so i doubt that we will include this because we have already enough to do with KDE alone smile We are currently sorting out some stuff and try to get it more organized, so what about trying it for yourself at first, and if it works you can provide us your knowledge/PKGBUILDs and we'll see if we have the time to include and maintain it...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

CALL FOR TESTING

I have uploaded some new packages to the /testing repo because we want to do some significant changes with 3.5.7 and dont want to run into problems this time :)

The changes include a new default theme for KDE that is based on the domino widget style and the tango icons. I am also currently playing with some compiler flags to make KDEmod even more fly. You should notice a speed increase on plain i686 and even more on a Pentium4 D compatible machine (Core2Duo and P4 Prescott).

Notice: This is _only_ for people on i686 who want to help us with testing some new features. The /current repo will get the next update with 3.5.7 and until that time /testing will be our playground to test the new stuff.

If you are adventurous and want to help us out a bit, _replace_ your KDemod entry in /etc/pacman.conf with this one:

[kdemod-testing]
Server = http://kdemod.ath.cx/repo/testing/i686

Then you can update the packages with "pacman -Suy"... If you have the kdemod-extra package installed, you have to install "kdemod-extras" afterwards as this one has been renamed...

You should notice no difference so far except you are using the old kdemod icon theme. This one will be replaced with the new tango icons.

To check out the new defaults:

1 - create a new user
2 - log into KDE with that user
3 - tell us about your experiences

Thanks

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I saw that you now have A lightweight base installation listed as a future on your website. So I was wondering whether there are/will be split packages (with and without unnecessary patches) for kdelibs and kdebase 3.5.7.

BTW: Did you get my email? I offered (and still offer) to help with a kdemod-light version.
