What do you mean? The kmenu entries? Or the contents of the base installation?

I know, there are no .desktop files installed with the packages, but here its no problem, and every app appears in the menu when i start it...

Superkaramba and kcalc were gone. Did i have to install another package, not just "pacman -S kdemod"?

Ah, now i get you smile Its modular, so a pacman -S kdemod  only installs the base packages (a minimal KDE), and you need to install extra packages for any app you want to use...

For example, if you want to use kcalc and superkaramba, then install the following packages:

kdemod-kdeutils-kcalc
kdemod-kdeutils-superkaramba

You can see all KDEmod packages by typing pacman -Ss kdemod, beware its a long list, as there are 84 packages available until now smile

The install howto explains everything...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Update...

-added splitted kdetoys packages

a big THANK YOU goes out to slubman for providing the PKGBUILDs

there are now 93 individual packages available at the repo...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Another update.

-added a patch for kdm to support userlist transparency

There is now a second repo for testing purposes available. It contains some extra stuff for kdemod:

kdemod-strigi - strigi desktop search
kdemod-extras - additional konqueror servicemenus and kicker applets

To use the testing repo, just add it to your pacman.conf:

[kdemod-testing]
Server = http://kdemod.ath.cx/testing

The testing repo will only be used for extra apps, but not the main kdemod packages.

Fixed.

I checked this and found out that it also needs modifictions in the kdm themes and removed the patch - this is not an option...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

There will be no updates etc for one month, as i am on a long trip around the planet... KDE 3.5.6 seems to be released around january 23, so i am not missing anything smile

When i am back, maybe this will be finished and i can include it, and i am also trying to include SuSE's kickoff into KDEmod, but from what i have seen until now and various build attempts its a horrible job to get this running roll Maybe someone can try it too...

I wish everyone a nice christmas and a happy new year!!

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I've decided to try kdemod with voodoo alpha.  Talk about a break of fresh air, no more bloat! Thank you for your project. smile

I still have a problem though, kuser is missing.  I tried to study on how the PKGBUILD files work, however I don't see kuser in the DO_NOT_COMPILE enumeration(?) in the configure files, or other variaous files included in the kdeadmin and kdeutils packages.  Is it a special program, or are the pkg files used as source modified?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

seems to be a problem with the package dependency, the official kde packages have the same problem. i think funkyou will fix it when he returns, or the other packagers will fix it (depending on where the problem is).

I see.. I also did a pacman -S gstreamer0.10 but it did not help.

Does anyone know a workaround for this problem?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

First of all, thanks for the good job.

I'm an xfce user and just want amarok, k9copy and k3b running from KDE, so I guessed kdemod was THE solution for people like me. Unfortunately, I think you're putting too much dependencies for some packages. Do kde-common really need archlinux-menus? I would be really happy if not having to install arts, for example.

I just want kdelibs and kdebase for minimal purposes, so i did pacman -S kdemod-kdebase. I was surprised that the total size wasn't smaller than with official packages, and it had the same dependencies.

Kdemod

Can you remove some dependencies from your packages or will it brake something? Maybe putting some of them as makedepends?
Thanks in advance.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I've been using kdemod for a week or so now and I've found it to be great. Thank you!

My only niggle is that kdvi is one of the missing packages, this is because it's integrated with the Kile "quick preview" for latex docs (and generally handy). Would it be possible to get this as a separate package in kdemod somewhen?

Thanks again smile

[Added]

I just knocked together a quick pkgbuild (using kdeless by pi.r, in AUR, as an example) for anyone needing kdvi for kdemod. You'll probably want to change the source relative to where you are but it should build.

pkgname=kdemod-kdegraphics-kdvi
pkgver=3.5.5
kdever=3.5.5 # if minor 0, then without .0
pkgrel=
pkgdesc="Kdvi Viewer"
url="http://www.kde.org"

groups=('kde')
depends=('kdemod-kdegraphics>=3.5.5')

#Change me!
source=(ftp://ftp.solnet.ch/mirror/KDE/stable/${kdever}/src/kdegraphics-${pkgver}.tar.bz2)

md5sums=('cdbe15afc01c5da7af9557e803bbb7e6')

build() {
        cd $startdir/src/kdegraphics-$pkgver
        ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde --disable-debug --disable-dependency-tracking --enable-final

        #Needed for kdvi to build, not included in package
        cd kviewshell
        make
        cd ..

        cd kdvi
        make
        make DESTDIR=${startdir}/pkg install
}

Hope somone finds that useful smile

[Edit]
Fixed a few mistakes in it.

I`ll check this out. Kuser is included in kdeadmin normally, but maybe i have missed something...

This seems to be a new issue... I have gstreamer (gstreamer 0.8.12-1) installed and there are no troubles so far...

KDEbase is not splitted yet and i dont know if i will ever do this -> too much work and i use only KDE, so i need the whole KDEbase anyway... The smaller result comes not with KDEbase and -libs, but with the splitted apps and that fully fits what i need. But i know that there is another attempt of a splitted KDE out there with a splitted KDEbase also, but i dont remember where to find it. Maybe you can find it here at the forums...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

welcome back, funkyou!

about the kcharselect, i don't think that's the one (but can't test it right now). it's called 'dictionary', right here on the kicker on my Kubuntu workbox.  now i think about it, it might be part of kdict... or the kicker applets. or maybe it is in kicker applets but only shows up when kdict is installed. anyway, i'll have a look at it at home (see if it's in kdict, if that's in KDEmod).

looking forward to the new goodies (and the upcoming KDE 3.5.6).
