Anyone could tell me how to use kitchensync?
I add a group, click on Add member, and the list is empty. I have libopensync installed. Any tips?

This happens if I try to use a similar driver as well.
The thing is, I can still print (which makes me think it's kdemod and not cups, the last update to cups actually got my printer working under linux again:D) but kde doesn't give me any of the options for the printer any more. The printer is an Epson RX620, but as this happened with other drivers I guess it's not specific to that printer.
2 suggestions for this...
1. try to run "foomatic-cleanup"
2. according to this, install the printer through the cups interface, then check if its available in kcontrol
I've just removed KDEMod and installed the official KDE packages, this problem goes away. Then I removed the official packages and installed KDEMod again, the problem comes back.
Is there a fix for this problem? Because it's quite a hassle not being able to change printer settings in KDE.
BTW I use Cannon BJC-6000.
Update: I've narrowed down to kdelibs package. If I install the official kdelibs and everything else are KDEMod packages, this problem won't appear. If I have time I'll take a closer look at the two PKGBUILDs and see what exactly breaks kdeprint.

Has the x86_64 version moved to current yet?
Yes, its available in current, though its not as up to date as i686... You can expect some packages to be 1 or 2 pkgrels behind i686...

This is the right attitude We are only 2 maintainers so far and we simply can not check every issue, but we are happy when we can include some fixes...

This problem actually applies to all printer drivers. What's strange is that after compiling kdemod-kdelibs from source again, problem just disappeared . Of course problem comes back if I install the kdemod binary package again (3.5.7-5).
Now the next question is, are desktop icons automatically aligned on each login for you all? If I drag an icon just a little bit and release it, all icons then suddenly get aligned. I'm not sure if it's a KDE issue or kdemod specific issue?

Thanks for the info.
We are now on a small hacking spree, rebuilding packages and integrating some very nice new features into KDEmod...
Please try the next kdelibs update, maybe the problem gets solved with it... (You have to install it manually if you have increased the pkgrel)
You can also do me a favor and list all printer specific packages on your machine. Maybe i just need another specific package installed to make it run correctly not only on my machine...
My few desktp icons are not automatically aligned, maybe you activate "lock icons" in the icon options...

Ok, Dunkelstern had an impressive hacking spree over the last 2 days and ported two very nice patches to KDEmod...
The First one is the Kwin drop shadow patch that enables software shadows for KWin. This is in particular interesting for people with crappy ATI cards or those who cant get any composite stuff with their cards and want to have some additional bling. The only disadvantage is that shadows dont get drawn when you move the window (hey, its _software rendering_).
The second patch adds theming capabilites to ksmserver, so you can easily create themes for the logout window. The kcontrol module has been nearly rewritten, so it works reliable now... You can take a look at the theme we deliver with kdebase, its pretty easy to do such a theme, so dont forget to send us yours
The klaptopdaemon issue has also been fixed and the packages are already available in our repo for i686... 64bit packages will follow soonish...

kdemod-kdebase now conflicts with kdmtheme: it's just a couple of docs, but...
I think it's safe to "pacman -Sf" as it should be the same documentation, but I suggest to strip these files from the kdemod-kdebase package.
Thanks for the hard work: kdemod is really cool!

Thanks.
Ah i see... It conflicts because the original author of the logout theme patch just forked the kdmtheme kcontrol module and did some very ugly hacking on it. It seems that the original kdmtheme docs are still included within, so we just strip them out with the next update...

I'm getting the same error as david_e. I truly applaud the kdemod project for it's dedication in splitting the massive kde package into more management bits. That being said however, I would prefer for the kde components be left alone with respect to GUI enhancements and other features that don't really add to the usability of the desktop. I don't know how much more difficult it would be to include visual "hacks" like these as a separate (and optional) package, but I do think it would provide more stability to KDE if they were.
Thanks again though for your hard work!

Just install with --force, it will be resolved with the next kdebase update...
I triuly applaud the kdemod project for it's dedication in splitting the massive kde package into more management bits.
Thanks.

I don't know how much more difficult it would be to include visual "hacks" like these as a separate (and optional) package, but I do think it would provide more stability to KDE if they were.
We cant split our patches out of KDEmod because a) its impossible and b) we want to have them
Also, if there would be some degradation in usability, then we would remove the offending patch because we also want to have a useable KDE and not an overloaded Environent that does not work or isnt really useable. Hey, we also use this every day...
And to say it again: The patches we apply have no impact on the stability of KDE, and they are used by a lot of those mainstream distributions too... In fact we are even better in this term than, as an example, Kubuntu i think, because we dont ship patches to "improve" the funcionality of some apps, but break them by hindsight, as you can see here and here for example.
We just ship some additions and mostly eyecandy patches with it, and every of our patches can also be disabled if you dont like them... Yes, you can have a (99%) vanilla KDE when using KDEmod...
Now to the real problem here:
Yes, we make mistakes, everyone makes them. A good example is the file conflict in KDEbase mentioned above that didnt happen on the 2 machines used for testing the update. And yes, we also have broken it very badly for about 1 or 2 times in the past, but we alone are not the key to resolve this.
So, whats the key?
We are as open as we can, and we rely on the feedback of the people using KDEmod... I dont know what we should do more, we have a Bug Tracker, everyone can get our PKGBUILDs, you can contact us easily, everything is just open... But then there are users who write "error reports" like "App X does not start" or "This does not work" for example, and they dont do anything to provide us some more information like starting the offending app from a console. In fact, many people dont even manage to post their architecture, beside the improper reporting of errors... Without proper information we can not resolve anything, even if we want to, so its not only our part...
To make it short now:
- read our instructions (some people even asked how to install our packages, which is clearly documented at our site)
- try to resolve your problem, maybe you can find a solution we didnt think of, so we can fix it very fast
- provide good information (console output, architecture etc etc)
- use our bug tracker
- you can always participate and help us, even the smallest amount is helpful
And dont take this personally. I am just slightly peeved by people who complain but do not do anything to resolve their problems, and your post reminded me of this behaviour...
Well, you can always get our PKGBUILDs, remove the patches you dont like and build it for yourself. Some people already do this and have no problem by doing it this way because they think the same as you, but for me it has still to be proved that any of our patches degrade KDE`s stability. Sometimes my machine runs KDEmod for more than a week 24/7 and i never experienced an instability...

No offense taken, and thanks for the response. I can understand where you're coming from, especially with respect to the ol' RTFM bit. I simply removed kdmtheme and then ran the upgrade again... voila!
I've been running Arch for less than a week now and haven't got a clue where to begin with ABS and building packages yet, but I'll get there. On the up side though, I document everything so you'll definitely get details from me if I ever have a showstopper

Hello,
I have just installed kdemod.
This is really great, thank you very much and congratulation to all of you who are making kdemod the best kde installation I have ever seen !
I have 1 question and 1 problem :
Question : What is the name of the beautiful theme (red flour as wallpaper and black kicker) shown in the screenshots on kdemod's website ? Is it installed with kdemod ? Is it on kde-look.org ?
Problem : As suggested on kdemod's website I tryed to install kdemod-kerry. kdemod-kerry depends on kdemod-beagle which seems to conflict with libbeagle required by kdemod-kdebase-kicker :

These libraries are part of the "libbeagle" package: installing with "pacman -Sf" will break these.
You should uninstall libbeagle and then install "kdemod-beagle" which provides it.

Si,
the Xinerama patches are applied since the last update of QT, KDEbase and KDElibs... The next update should make printing work again, so please test this... However, it seems like a bug in kdeprint but we`ll see if your solution will work...
defcon,
the ksm manager is still a little bit buggy, i noticed this too... I got it working by enabling/disabling the theme function and marking the theme to set. Just play a little bit around in the options, it will work for sure... A fix for this will follow soon. If it disturbs you, just disable it
We will also write a small howto over the next weeks, which will cover some special cases like the beagle stuff...
