Recently I upgraded my nvidia and nvidia-util package to 387.34-18 and 387.34-4. However, gnome-session failed to start after this upgrade and reported:
gnome-session: software acceleration check failed: child process exited with code 1
leaving a "Something is wrong" screen.
Downgrading to 387.34-17/387.34-2 fixed this issue.
Tested platform:
- linux 4.14.12 + nvidia 387.34-18: BUG
- linux 4.14.11 + nvidia 387.34-18: BUG
- linux 4.14.11 + nvidia 387.34-17: OK
I'm not sure is this a bug of nvidia or gnome.

Same here. I also tried the LTS kernel, 4.9.75-1 + nvidia 387.34-18 with no luck.
Downgrading nvidia and nvidia-util packages fixed the issue.

Exact same issue for me! Downgrading worked...
Can we hope that this will be fixed any time soon?

It should be fixed already, do you still get this with nvidia 387.34-18 and nvidia-utils 387.34-5 ?

Seems to be working now.
Thanks!
