No display on Nvidia on MSI GE72

So, I've got one of these: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GE72VR-6RF-Apache-Pro.html

When I get Arch onto it (encrypted root, OS on a USB stick and not the actual hard drive) I get the Nvidia drivers onto it, because the Nouveu ones do very bad things to the system (CPU lockups as reported by the kernel), I end up getting just a blank screen with a blinking text cursor in the top left.

X log says it sees 3 displays, all disconnected. I've tried using Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0" (and DFP-2) in the config for X, but this doesn't seem to accomlish anything.

Any suggestions for what to poke at next?
