[solved] X fails to start with linux 4.15.0 in testing

X fails to start when enabling the testing pacman repository in /etc/pacman.conf.

If I switch to linux-lts in testing (i.e. downgrade linux from 4.15.0 to 4.14.16) then X works.

I have a Sandybridge i7-2700K, GIGABYTE RX 460 GV-RX460WF2OC-2GD GPU, and DELL U3011 monitor (2560x1600) connected by dual link DVI.

I use startx to launch X.  /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d is empty.

The error in Xorg.0.log is:
    [     3.451] (EE) modeset(0): failed to set mode: Invalid argument

I compared Xorg.0.log from when I booted with linux  4.14.16 and 4.15.0, and noticed many modelines were detected with 4.14.6 which were not detected with 4.15.0.

I built a linux kernel using drm-next-4.17-wip, and X now starts without issues.
