macbook pro 2015 uefi luks microSD UHS-2 install "usb 2-3 error -62"

hello,

I'm struggling with the following setup for a couple of days and after numerous searches I came to you guys.

Macbook Pro early 2015 with rEFInd and Linux Mint 17.2
SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDXC UHS-II Card with USB 3.0 Reader

The install is successful from VirtualBox and It works on other laptops.

While booting, after the password prompt I got the following error:

usb 2-3: device not accepting address 2, error -62
usb2-3: device not accepting address 3, error -62
usb2-3: device not accepting address 4, error -62
usb2-3: device not accepting address 5, error -62
usb2-port3: unable to enumerate USB device

The keyboard is unresponsive at this point.

I found people having this problem as well

EDIT:   unencrypted install throws the errors while booting but proceeds to shell successfully

Thank you

Better late than never I hope (and debugging with Debian on a MacBook Pro 11,1, which I think is the same as yours).

This is an extremely annoying bug related to USB3 and the Linux UEFI on booting.
It can be set off by uncleanly stopping your machine, like crashing or running out of batteries (I regularly get uptimes in the many months, but sometimes one forgets to plug the power cable in...).

The symptoms are a 30 sec wait on book before you see either rEFIt or rEFInd or grub, and these recurring messages.
Also some instability for me when plugging in multiple USB devices when resuming from suspend.

I think, but I don't have much proof, that USB device 2-3 is the very flaky SD card reader.

The solution it to reset the UEFI with the Mac one.
If you have completely removed OSX for your system (well done first of all, it's a waste of space) don't worry,
if you boot holding the D key, the machine will download a diagnostic system from the net.
For me just running this resets what needs to be reset and the system boots in a few seconds and the
"device not accepting address" messages go away.

This is helpful:
