hidpi with export GDK_SCALE=2 and zathura

I find that with export GDK_SCALE=2 in my .xinitrc many programs like firefox and chromium work out of the box.
However zathura-mupdf results in a slightly blurred rendering, which is not there if I do not export as above.
(Notice that mupdf instead renders crisp as usual.)

Is there a workaround to also have zathura behave as firefox and chromium?
