Lid switch detected correctly but not triggering suspend

I’ve got a Lenovo Ideapad 120s, updated completely with XFCE. When I close the lid, the laptop does not suspend like I’ve set in XFCE Power Manager. The display backlight goes off, but does not blank out the image or suspend the machine. I’ve tested this with a magnet and flashlight to see what ACPI events are coming across. Here’s what I’ve found:

Running watch cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state lets me see the current state. When the lid is open it reads state: open and when I use a magnet to simulate closing the lid it says state: closed. However, using evtest to watch for events on /dev/input/event0, no open/close events are reported.

Why would /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state be working correctly but not evtest?
