Xorg freeze with nouveau errors

Updated my system a few weeks ago and have experienced now at least 5 freezes that required a hard reboot.
My screen starts to get sluggish and then it just freezes. Mouse still moves but nothing else works.

I checked the logs and found this right before the freeze:

Any idea on what could be causing this?
Should I just ditch nouveau and install NVIDIA's proprietary drivers?

Any help appreciated.

Re: Xorg freeze with nouveau errors

Which mesa version do you have installed and which GPU do you have?  There were some pretty serious bugs in some of the mesa 18.x release candidates from a few weeks ago though I see Arch is on mesa-17.3.5-1 right now.

Re: Xorg freeze with nouveau errors

You don't say what software if any that you are using when
the freeze happens. If you use a webengine browser/app/script
with nouveau then you'll need to launch it with --disable-gpu or the
graphic display will freeze. This is a nouveau bug/deficiency that has been
around for a while now, that nouveau has not fixed yet. Solution is to live
with it or change to nvidia. You can do a google search to read what the problem is.
