Unable to install Archboot

Hello,
I wanted to create a custom live usb bootable arch iso, in the wiki, it showed two ways, one is to use Archiso tools to create a live disk and another one is to use Archboot to create a usb bootable disk.
I tried to install archboot. it showed some errors and dependancy problem. can someone help me setup archboot?

illuminati@archlinux ~ % sudo pacman -S archboot

Re: Unable to install Archboot

How long has it been since you last updated your system?  Quite long it would seem.

The general answer would be to update before/while installing new packages: `pacman -Syu archboot`.  However, if you've left this system unmaintained for too long, this might give other problems.

(edit: nevermind, it seems I'm quite wrong.  Though why on earth this is still then in the repositories baffles me.)

Re: Unable to install Archboot

archboot hasn't been updated since 2016 and packages have changed, so now you cannot install it anymore. The package has been flagged as out of date in the package list: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/archboot/

rfkill is now part of util-linux, but the provides-entry doesn't specify a version number, so archboot doesn't detect it.
yp-tools and eventlog are not available at all.

You will probably have to create your own package from the sources.

Re: Unable to install Archboot

@Trillby @progandy thank you for the reply. So, is there any other way to make a custom iso image with persistant mode?

Wait, what?  Neither of the methods mentioned in this thread are persistent.  I don't think and iso can be.

You can install an arch system on a usb just fine.  You can even configure the boot loader(s) to boot on BIOS and UEFI systems.

But what are you really trying to do here?

(edit: technically either likely could have persistent storage added with a separate filesystem used as an overlay - but that would not then just be an iso, it would be an iso plus an additional filesystem - and you could not simply `dd` it to a flash drive).

Re: Unable to install Archboot

If you want to install the archboot package, then you can probably update it to the latest git version and fix the dependencies. Something like this:

If you want a arch on an usb stick, then that is possible with the normal arch installation procdure. There is even a wiki article for that:

I think this will do the thing.
