However, my CPU never seems to overheat. Right now it's 50C and 0 RPM Fan. The error messages seem harmless, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen this or knows how to resolve for good.
I'm currently on 4.15.7-1, but this has been happening for months.

As far as I can tell, this is normal laptop behavior.
Had it on my T470 and on this X1 Carbon Gen 6.
You can adjust the kernel printk level to control which messages actually hit your screen, but personally I patch the kernel to set this warning to a lower level.

But shouldn't the CPU get throttled under heavy load only?
I have almost the same behavior, my CPU gets throttled around 75.0°C. And I can not change this value at all.
Here is my post from askubuntu (though it has probably nothing to do with ubuntu, rather than intel..)

There is a repo that attempts to fix this. I haven't gotten it working on my X1 Yoga (3rd edition) yet but I am hopeful. https://github.com/erpalma/lenovo-throttling-fix
