Thunar-volman

I am using xfce4, thunar and thunar-volman, with gvfs installed (including udisks2). I have 'mount removable drives ...', 'mount removable media ...' and 'browse removable media...' enabled in 'settings: removable drives and media'.

Inserting a usb stick or an external hdd brings up an icon on the desktop which is NOT mounted. I have to go into thunar and select the usb stick/ext hdd to mount it. Is there a reason for thunar/thunar-volman not working as they are apparently meant to work?

Re: Thunar-volman

Is thunar running in daemon mode?

From https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/th … me_Manager:

Tip: To let Thunar handle automatic mounting, one must launch thunar in daemon mode. #Starting in daemon mode

Re: Thunar-volman

Thank you. I think I've done that by adding thunar --daemon to the 'session and startup' manager in Settings. It seems to work. I must say that the instructions for doing that are just about non-existent in the wiki so I assume this is one of those bits of ultra-deep knowledge that Linux experts learn from experience.
