focuswriter won't open a particular file

Hi --

I'm running Arch on a 2009 netbook with really limited resources, so was excited to find the app focuswriter on AUR, since I'd love to use this portable machine for writing projects.

Plus the focuswriter interface is so nice and minimal ... just my style.

However, when I opened a writing project I'd composed on LibreOffice Write (about 25 pages of single spaced type, no fancy formatting whatsoever) focuswriter shows ... nothing. A blank screen with a flashing cursor.

I'm getting no errors, even when I open the application from a terminal.

I'm using i3-gaps as a desktop. The file I'd like to edit resides in a Dropbox folder. Not sure what other info is relevant. I've looked at the file in a file manager, and it is not empty. I tried opening it in Abiword but I have an odd flickering issue with Abiword.

Would love to know how to begin troubleshooting such a thing. I almost posted a comment over on the AUR page for focuswriter, but then thought I should start here.

Followup: I tested focuswriter with the same file on a Debian box and ... it didn't open there, either. I suppose I have to take it up with upstream.

Or get good at LaTeX.
