Nightlight breaks color profile after upgrade to Gnome 3.28

Hi,

I just upgraded from Gnome 3.26 to 3.28 and noticed problem with NightLight mode.
I have monitor calibrated with colorimeter and applied ICC color profile through gnome-settings.

When upgraded to 3.28 monitor had a strange pink tint. So I went to gnome-settings and doubleclicked to monitor (already active) color profile. Colors went back to normal.
But then screen started sudenly flickering between that tint and another state (none of them was correct I think). After some time it ended in same pink tint as before.

After some experimenting I found this is caused when I turn on or off Night Light. (Just cklicking 'Disable until tomorrow' or 'Resume' from drop-down menu).
It happens everytime I switch, does not matter if to Night Lights ON state or to OFF state.
Nothing suspicious in journalctl (in fact really nothing when I run journalctl -f and try to replicate issue).

Anyone with simillar experience or does know about some fix? (Except not using Night Light? This fixes thing for sure)

Yes, I'm having exactly the same issue since the update to 3.28. No solution yet

Maybe related but night light only works on one monitor for me now, not both. Used to work fine.

I can confirm what Durden wrote. It only works on my secondary monitor. Used to work fine before upgrading to 3.28. I have to toggle the color profile on the primary monitor to update the colors. Bug 780167; Night light mode is not working correctly on multiple monitors.

Both those bugs were reported on 3.26 but night light worked fine on 3.26 for me and presumably the others in this thread. It stopped working on the second monitor immediately after upgrade to 3.28. So I suspect those bugs are due to a different cause.

Note, night works on my primary monitor (screen 2 in my display settings), but not on my secondary monitor (screen 1 in my display settings).

Same issue for me - it also happens when I use only single display mode. I also have weird flickering when I enable/disable Night Light (just when color changes from normal to lower temperature). Nothing in journalctl -k either

Same problem here. Night light only works on my primary display. Fails to function on my secondary display and toggling the color profile on and off makes it work. But when disabling and enable, i have to keep toggling it off and on to get the intended effect.

GNOME 3.28.

Night light worked fine on GNOME 3.26.

Me too: GNOME 3.26 was working fine, GNOME 3.28 stops night mode on laptop internal monitor.

As the bug report and form post indicates: night mode won't work when a color profile is active. I was not aware that a color profile was active for my external monitor. I suspect it was added or activated with GNOME 3.28, or ignored in GNOME 3.26. Disabling the color profile gave me back the night mode.

It's logical that night mode cannot be activated when a color profile is active. There should be a warning in the UI, because although it's logical it's not intuitive.

The automatic color profile is enabled on both monitors but only one of them has stopped working with night mode. It's a straight up bug.

It is not logical. I used color profiles before on 3.24 and 3.26. I am not sure if there was nightlight in 3.24, I think not (think it was introduced in 3.26). And night-light worked OK. When nightlight time came it switched to yellowish colors. When not, it switched back to mine calibrated color profile. Since automatic color profile was complete disaster, I never used that. So when it worked OK, I don't know why it shoud be logical to Nightlight not working with custom color profile. But this is just my point of view.

Just for info, mine setup is laptop, using only one display every time. Just internal display when traveling. When I am at office or home, I use only external display connected through docking station (laptop lid is closed).
So in a way it is not multi-monitor setup. But in other way it is.
