Always when Google Chrome is running (minimised, windowed and full screen) my desktop PC refuses to hibernate or suspend.
I finally sussed what prevented hibernating and suspend. It's the tab where I'm logged into my email account at outlook.com.
I pinned Plasma's Battery and Brightness widget and watched if any (error) messages would pop up concerning power saving.
Every 35 to 50 seconds the same message was popped, and then disappeared after a few seconds. Visible in all screenshots.
So in the Outlook tab, something is transmitted by Chrome to Skype every 35 to 50 seconds.
The popped message is:
Google Chrome is currently suppressing power management.
Uploading data to client-s.gateway.messenger.live.com
I don't use Skype, so I search their help pages to turn it off completely. But apparently that's not possible. See the web page in the second screenshot.
(I already had the chat and incoming call notification stuff switched off.)
Searching Google for "client-s.gateway.messenger.live.com" quoted to find out what was transmitted, I found the explanation in the third screenshot.
Which (I think) confirms what I'm seeing in Plasma's Battery and Brightness widget. The time interval mentioned is spot on.:
POST https://client-s.gateway.messenger.live.com/v1/users/ME/endpoints/(string: endpoint)/active Endpoints must be kept alive by regularly pinging them. Skype for Web does this roughly every 45 seconds, sending a timeout value of 12.
My question is : Can I override this behaviour with a forcible (system) setting, or else what are my other options?
I now close the tab with outlook.com before I walk away from my PC, and restore it with Ctrl+Shft+T.
Edit reason : 'postimg.org' changed to 'postimg.cc'.
