After updating xorg-server to the recent version, X server freezes during startup (arch running on a KVM/qemu guest). This is the error message I get:
xf86CloseConsole: KDESETMODE failed: Input/output error
xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Input/output error
xf86CloseConsole: VT_ACTIVATE failed: Input/output error
The weird thing is that the packages xorg-server and xf86-video-qxl are now conflicting with each other. This means, when I install xorg-server I kick out xf86-video-qxl and vice versa.
Could this be the root cause of my problem and should I file a bug report?
Thanks!

Please post the pacman command and its output that demonstrate the package conflict. What package versions are involved? Which repositories are enabled?

Just saw that the compatible qxl package is still in Community-Testing. I only use the Core, Extra and Community repos. Here is pacman showing the conflict:
$> sudo pacman -S xf86-video-qxl
:: xf86-video-qxl and xorg-server are in conflict (X-ABI-VIDEODRV_VERSION). Remove xorg-server? [y/N]

I can not reproduce a conflict between those packages
pacman -S xf86-video-qxl

Thank you very much!
For some reason my system pulls (starting today) X server from Testing and everything else from the standard repos (pacman -Syu). Downgrading X server manually solved the problem.

Would check your pacman.conf also what mirror are you using?

I have the same problem regarding that Xorg server can no longer start with my Arch Linux QEMU guest when upgrading xorg-server and xf86-video-qxl to the latest version. Is there any fix/solution for this particular problem?
